What's Your Favorite Spot At Home?

What do you think is the best spot in your house (or condo, or apartment, or whatever)? The place you enjoy the most, the part that makes you glad to be home. Inside, outside, whatever you like. If you have lots of favorite spots, or rooms, that's good too, let's hear about it. :appl:

I like my patio a lot, when it's full of flowers. It's nice to spend time there, the breeze comes through and the wind chimes blow, it's all very relaxing.

I also like my library: the chair is very comfy, the view out the windows is pretty and it's full of books. I don't like to reread very often, but I do like my reference books and antique books.

What's your favorite spot, what makes it "home" for you?

I like our den, even though it needs sprucing up! It is a large, but "cozy" feeling room with oversized Ralph Lauren leather chairs and such. It is just off the kitchen/table/bar area, so it the place where a lot of memories are made. I especially love it during storms since it is a sturdy Tudor style house; it feels "safe" and comforting in the den!

Right now? The chaise lounge part of our living room sectional. I've got a butt groove. LOL In fact, I'm sitting here right now, as I am most evenings. We are currently renovating our dining room into a den, so my answer may change in a few months.

I would have to say my bedroom. I love our cozy cushy bed to watch tv in. We never sit in the family room even though the tv is much bigger there. Running a close second, we just added the cutest table and chairs and put some cushions on the adirondack chairs on our upper deck. I love to go out there in the morning with a cup of coffee and something to read. It is pretty darn cute.

The window next to my bed because the morning light is amazing for staring at diamonds!!!

Ok so seriously favorite spot is the dinner table. I love to eat and family dinners are non-negotiable in my house. I love hearing about everyone's day and the interaction we have then. Plus there is food!!!!! :lickout:

I love my kitchen. I've always wanted a nice big kitchen and I feel like I have that in our new home. It has lots of counter space, a great view out of the window, and plenty of storage. I love to cook and bake so I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and I love mine. I have my own personal touches in it.

I really like our yard. We have so much grass, and wild blackberries and rabbits. I have potted tomatoes, peppers, scallions, chives, rosemary, lavender, thyme and peppermint. We can listen to the birds, and we have an area perfect for our smoker when we want to cook outside and sit and relax.

Those two things have even beat out the office where all my books are.

I like our bedroom. It's my own little sanctuary in the house, as well as my craft room. I always have fun in there!!

I love our conservatory. It has a lovely big comfy sofa, all my books & a beautiful view over the garden. At the moment I'll sit & admire all the pretty flowers, but even in winter it's still pretty outside. It is so quiet that all you can hear are the birds. It always makes me feel calm & at peace with life in there :))

We've owned our home for a year and not one single room in it feels like "home" to me yet. It's been a very slow process getting settled and starting to make changes around here. The dining room was the first to receive a makeover and it's about 75% finished and feels the most like "us" out of the rooms, so I'd have to say for now that's my favorite. But really, any room where I can look out the windows and watch the bunnies chase each other around my yard, or watch the deer munch on our long grass (we're naturalizing about half of our lawn space), or watch the goldfinches eat the seeds from a thistle plant are my favorites. And it's so nice to be able to see all that after living in condos/apartments for 5 years in the big city!

The outside patio. It's nothing more than a big mossy hill facing the mountains but it gets a very nice cross breeze.

I am currently sitting out on my two level deck surrounded by enormous trees, flowers, bushes, birds, blue sky...I am in heaven. Too bad I am in Chicago where the sitting season is so short. I'm listening to the birds call each other.

I like my patio best. It's green & shady in southern summers, edged by 2 huge elms. Under them I planted a garden of ferns, shrubs, lobelia cardinalis, a Japanese maple & many other shade lovers. Bird fountain splashes; it's so peaceful. We have a few bird feeders there so it's full of tuneful visitors all day - and at night a horned owl calls to his lady, who answers from the pasture across the street. Bluebirds, goldfinches, Carolina wrens, a variety of woodpeckers, brown thrashers -- and a mockingbird who sings reveille at 5:30 every morning to wake his sleeping neighbors.

I watch baby birds learn to fly, bun-rabs running around, squirrels screwing their heads off. Fawns were born in the backyard 3 years in a row, until a red fox tried to eat one; amazing how the word gets around -- after that we haven't had any. Does chew on my greens & drink from the fountain though.

Next favorite would be our bedroom, with one wall all windows. I love to lie in bed & look into the branches of the elms by the patio.

Anywhere there is a Laz-Y-Boy chair and a laptop.

I love chillin on the front porch with the dogs and parrot, and saying Howdy to the neighbors strolling by.

I love being in our backyard on our deck in our adirondack chairs just watching the waves and hearing the sound of the water. My favorite time of day is sunrise and I love being out there just watching the day begin. It's very peaceful.

(Though I will admit to sometimes having my laptop with me. :cheeky: )

Oh, Missy, I'll be there today! Living on the water is my dream. What's for dinner?

My bed. Or any bed. :cheeky:

Laurie, we would love you to visit us at the beach. Seriously anytime you are welcome. And we will cook anything you want! :wavey:

I love to sit and read on my front porch and watch the world go by.

I'm surprised no one else has said the kitchen! I like to sit on a stool in there and drink coffee.

Little River I DID!!! I love my kitchen! Read above and to add: I've made it very personal. I love pigs, so I have my piggy cookbook stand, piggy timer, and little pig nick nacks hidden everywhere. One hangs from the "banana hanger". I also have two little signs, one is blues and greens and says breathe, the other has the extended live love laugh quote painted on it with little flowers. It's pastel green and yellow and it's just homey to me. :wavey:

Ohhhh...our super comfortable couch. I love it most when its snowing out and the fireplace is on right next to it. So cozy.

My favorite spot ever though, is my bed at my parents house. I sleep so, so, so good on it. It's just my safe spot and has been ever since we moved into that house when I was 7 :) I'm attached!

Depending on the weather, either sitting out on the back deck or curled up in one corner of the sofa.

The deck doesn't have the greatest view since we're in the middle of a subdivision, but we have a decent-sized yard with mature trees and some garden space, so it's a nice spot to sit and relax with a coffee and a book and watch the dogs run around, or a beer and a burger while DH works the grill.

I love our couch because we just bought it about 7 months ago and spent twice as much as we were planning (pretty much bought the most expensive couch in the store... whoops) but it is so worth it. It is huge and sooo comfortable, and as long as I manage not to spill anything and stain it, I think we will have it for many years to come.

I wish my kitchen was my favorite place because I love to cook and bake, but it's just way too small. Actually there's an okay amount of space to move around, but not quite enough to put in an island and there isn't nearly enough counter space or storage. Our house is a split level, and when we bought it there was a coat closet on each level, which we obviously don't need, so we converted the upstairs one next to the kitchen into a huge pantry. I'd love to redo our kitchen and make it more workable/pretty and update appliances, but we expect to move within another year or 2 so we don't want to put too much money into the house now. Still, I'm fond of our little first house here since we were among the first of our friends/peers to buy a house and we spent almost 2 months fixing it up before we moved in. I'll be a little sad to leave it, but happy to get some more space (I hope!!).

So this thread is interesting; we all seem to enjoy the spots that relax us.

We tend to gravitate to the outdoors, or our beds, or sometimes our kitchens. A couple of people like the couch.

But we don't tend to like our living rooms or our dining rooms quite as much. Is it the distracting, but not relaxing, TV? The formality of the dining room? We spend so much money on those rooms, and generally not as much on our outdoor spaces, but we like the outside better.

Why is that?

Remember a few years back, all the marketing was centered around the bathroom? What ever happened to that?

I like my bathroom, because it's the only spot in the house where I have complete privacy and a few minutes to myself to think. :)

That's my favorite spot at least once a day, but once I'm done pooping, I'm over it.

LOL! :)

That's what I was thinking during the 1990's when they kept showing us bigger and better bathrooms. Two person tubs, 5 person showers, huge rooms, heated floors, steam showers, bidets everywhere. What did they think was going to go on in there?

Orgies, apparently.

My favorite spot for comfort is my bedroom because I love our bed! My favorite room though at this moment is our newly finished nursery for our LO on the way. It's just so cheerful and pretty, I love it!! ::)

Come to think of it, I really do like my bathroom in spite of it being small because it is one of the only rooms that was already updated nicely when we bought the place, and has a good sized jetted tub. I guess I forget about it in the summer, though, because soaking in a hot bath doesn't usually sound that nice when it's really warm out, but in the winter it gets a lot of use. I love escaping there with a good book (not my kindle, because I would totally drop it).
