Never understood Valentine''$

DH/I came from very traditional families so Christmas Day is my favorite, both families meet at church, then lunch w/o presents. All bring something ''small'' to the host as we take turns between MIL, Mum and I. Christmas eve is my second fave, just 4 of us.

My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love the vibe of the whole season, not just the one day itself. My least favorite is probably Halloween. I just don''t get the appeal at all. My birthday is actually on Halloween, and I always felt jipped (sp?) when I was younger. I don''t care about that now obviously, but I avoid Halloween parties because I hate dressing up.
My favorite is Thanksgiving because the food and alcohol is enjoyable. Up until about 10 years ago I LOVED Christmas the most, but now it just upsets me. First, I feel that it''s over materialistic for my kids and Second, I watch how some relatives are treated as "favorites" and leave us out. I''m not talking about gifts, but family pictures. One year, there was a set of pictures of the cousins and EVERYONE except our family got one. I sat there silent as stone, motionless as framed photos were given to everyone except us. Since then, the family get-together has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

My kids are really cute, though, so I be sure to put out framed photos of them and not share with anyone.

oh, no. Why Valentine''s Day?

It does seem a little over-rated. How much chocolate can one eat? Also, resturants are over crowded.

Most Favourite: Christmas

I don''t have a least favourite one...

Love: thanksgiving...it''s about family and food. Since I love both, it''s a wonderful thing. I also like Easter...spring is in the air and life is in full bloom.

Hate: Halloween. All things icky. I don''t get it.

I love all holidays....most special to me are Christmas and Easter as I am a Christian. Halloween is my late Mother''s birthday and we always had lots of fun on her special day....we trick or treated and had her party, too. DH and I married on Valentine''s Day and we love that day....extra special for us.

My Mom always made every holiday fun and decorated our house no matter what occasion it was. My parents are gone now, as are DH''s, and we miss sharing holidays with our parents.

Thanksgiving for sure is my fave. It''s all about being together, the food is yummy and there isn''t the pressure that you have with Christmas. The gifts, the rush, it''s a lot if you ask me.

Christmas to me was all about when the kids were young, and we had family to celebrate with. Now many have passed away. I always remember Christmas in the past. My brother made Christmas magical for me. Even when I was an adult. He was Mr. Christmas. I have fond memories.

I don''t have a least favorite holiday.. If I had to pick one?? Valentines Day. Hubby''s birthday is the day after, so we just by pass V day and celebrate his birthday. I think V day is over rated...

Thanksgiving is my favorite. Hands down. I think Thanksgiving is a throw away holiday for many people. It is a reason for stuffing one''s face, or watching massive amounts of football, or preparing for the Friday From Hell shopping excursion. It''s become the ''kick off'' to the holiday season. Even the "Thanksgiving Day Parade" is really all about Santa. He''s the climax, the reason for the hoopla, it seems.

Thanksgiving, to me, was always about family. Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, parents, siblings - - all under one roof. Laughing, arguing, hugging, eating, playing games, planning our big family Christmas get together, drawing names for the gift exchange. Then I got older, family members passed on, some of us moved away. . . and Thanksgiving became smaller. But in my heart, Thanksgiving remains that Norman Rockwell portrait.

Least favorite? Any federal holiday that doesn''t translate to a day off for the rest of us working stiffs.

Kaleigh, I was gonna write that but I didn''t think Valentine''s day is a proper holiday LOL just something Hallmark invented to sell more cards.

I'm going against the tide to say Thanksgiving is my least favorite. It's all the family stresses without the presents. I didn't mind it before I got married (but still found it blah), but now it's consummed by which parents to visit (they live near each other), while we end up exhausted with a cranky baby!

My favorite is Xmas!! I just have always loved the season, the carols, the presents..stockings. lights, old classics on TV,etc.--it's all so magical to me even though I know it annoys most everyone else in my family! Now that I have a little girl I have an excuse to celebrate it like a child again! Less family stress since DH's family is more spread out over Xmas.

My husband is the youngest of five, and most of his siblings are married with children (the children are older though). You''d think that being from such a big family and everyone living so close to each other, that Thanksgiving would be a big deal. Not so. If we spend Thanksgiving with his side of the family, it''s usually just his parents and us. Christmas Eve is their biggest holiday to celebrate as a large family.

I didn''t grow up with relatives close by, so we rarely spent holidays together. I WISH we did though because I''m sure it would have made the holidays feel more festive somehow.

I LOVE Christmas, even though I don''t celebrate it. But I guess it''s kind of the commercialized, non-religious part of it that I like. The carols! The eggnog! The reindeer! I struggle every year because the idea of a Christmas tree totally appeals to me and I love LOVE looking at ornaments (and have even purchased a few beautiful ones . . . for the tree I''ll never have) and twinkly lights, but I''m Jewish. And yeah, I know some Jews have Christmas trees and even give gifts on Christmas, but I can''t really see myself doing it. So, I love Christmas from afar.
