My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love the vibe of the whole season, not just the one day itself. My least favorite is probably Halloween. I just don''t get the appeal at all. My birthday is actually on Halloween, and I always felt jipped (sp?) when I was younger. I don''t care about that now obviously, but I avoid Halloween parties because I hate dressing up.

Favorite: Thanksgiving. All the fun/family/food/drink of Christmas, without the pressure/stress of gift buying and giving!

Least favorite: New Years (if that counts!). I hate the feeling that you "should" be doing something fun and every year it ends up being a let down. Also, not a huge fan of Easter. I mean really, the Easter Bunny might be the silliest holiday mascot/tradition ever. I do love jelly beans though

LOVE Christmas! You should definitely check out that town I was telling you about, Zoe. It''s heaven for Christmas fanatics like me.

Least favourite? Ummm...4th of July. Food and fireworks. Yay? Whoopee? Not my thing...

Hi Princess! We''ll definitely check out that town! I''ve already told D. about it, and we plan to see the sights. I''m with you on not really liking the 4th of July. The parade in my hometown is a big deal, and during a campaign year, many of the candidates participate. There''s also an art show on the town green, and that''s fun. Other than that, I''m not really into that day. As far as I''m concerned, after you''ve seen fireworks once, you''re good. After that, they''re all the same.

MagsMay -- I know what you mean about Easter, and I agree. It''s fun for kids though, and Easter baskets are a treat.

True! Though I will say I was impressed at the fireworks this year. We went to a minor league baseball game and the fireworks were pretty fantastic.

I LOVE Halloween and New Year''s, pretty much neck-and-neck: for me, they''re both about new beginnings, and deciding what you want to be in the year ahead.

I HATE Thanksgiving (ridiculous holiday, terrible food), and I feel like Valentine''s Day is a judgment upon the single among us - I may be all coupled up now, but I remember miserable V-Day and miserable V-Day, and, seeing how my single friends play it, I don''t think I''m remembering wrongly.

I love Christmas. It''s the one thing that makes living in all these freezing climates bearable

I don''t mind NYE too much. My husband and I went away on our first mini-vacation for NYE six years ago, and we love remembering that day. Even now, we try to find something to do, even if it''s just going out to dinner or grabbing take out and watching a movie.

Circe -- Thanksgiving isn''t a major holiday in my house either. My parents and my sister are coming to visit us for the first time since we moved away from our home state. That will be fun, but usually, it''s a pretty quiet holiday for us.

Love: Christmas. I love to shop, especially for others, and I try to find a genuine gift for anybody that I''m shopping for. DH and I usually get twice the meals and togetherness since we do Christmas with both of our families, which makes for a busy time, but it''s still fun. DH and I have a young son (he''s 15 months now) and it was so much fun last year when he was just a little guy. This year will be even better since he loves to tear into things so we''ll be getting him some token gifts just to watch him open them up and smile and giggle

Hate: Christmas. Yes, I know I just said that I loved it. As much as I love Christmas I also sort of hate it. DH has a large family and some of his siblings are a little passive agressive with me and it drives me bonkers. I put on a happy face but usually end up disappointed because every year I think it will be different. That everyone will be nice and just get along and every year I''m wrong. Sigh. It''s also getting to be a bit too busy now that DH and I have a child. In a few years we''ll have to figure something else out since Santa will be coming to our house for our son and so we won''t be able to do two Christmasses in one day like we''ve done for years now. I already know that there will be arguments about what''s going to change.

My absolute favorite holiday is Christmas as well! I just truly love getting things for others and seeing them open their presents and know you thought about them and to get them their gift. I think people in general are nicer during Christmas than any other holiday. Everyone smiles more and are normally in a jovial spirit. I can''t wait for the holiday!

New Year''s and Easter are my two least favorites also, for similar reasons.

I love love love Christmas. My birthday is just a few days before, so December is always a fun month for me. I love giving and receiving gifts, and I love all the holiday parties as well.

I love Christmas. We never celebrated when we were little, so when JD and I got together and started celebrating, it was just SO fun! We have a lot of fun w/the kids too-they get a big kick out of it. I go insane trying to decorate the tree every year to get it "just so", and wish we had the money to just go all out and decorate inside and out. I like to burn candles that have the "smell" of Christmas. We bought the Snoopy holiday movies and watch them and also the Grinch.

Easter and V-day aren''t much here. We color eggs for Easter and that''s about it.

Halloween is fun b/c I like the candy and dressing the kids up. This year is not so fun b/c the costume I ordered for London is WAY too small so now we have to scramble and find something. grrr.

My favorite is defintely Christmas. (Thanksgiving is a close second) I love decorating and all the traditions that my family has. Even though I get frustrated looking for the perfect gift, I really enjoy giving things that I (hopefully) have put a lot of thought in to the people I love.

My least favorite is probably New Year''s Eve. It is such a contrived excuse to be obnoxious. I couldn''t care less if I do nothing on New Years''s Eve.

favorite is the forth of July.Least Fvorite is Halloween.

I hate Christmas (bah humbug) because I have to spend lots of $$$. My most unfavorite holiday and truly over marketed. It''s also cold and snowy during Christmas, and I''m forced to drive to relatives house in the cold and snow, which irritates me. Just call me Scrooge.

I don''t like many holidays except for the ones I get off work, and where there''s no food involved (no one in my family an cook) and I can still go out and find stores open. Hmmmm? Memorial Day, does that count? LOL!!

Love Halloween through Christmas... I am not such a fan of Easter. I don''t really like most of the food, and it''s kind of a dreary time of year here anyways. (Cold, rainy, overcast...)

I looove Thanksgiving because it's during my favorite season, it involves lots of eating/trying new food, and no stress about present buying! As I get older I'm really not into presents ... I don't like buying them or getting them anymore. Haha. So I kind of like Christmas, but the stress of having to get things for people who already have everything (and don't want anything) is just a pain.

Fourth of July is probably my least favorite. I'm not really a fireworks fan and eating hamburgers and hot dogs isn't really a "special" thing.

favorite - xmas
least favorite - easter

Christmas is by far my most favorite holiday/time of year ever!!! Every year on Christmas Eve we go to church, and then we have hot chocolate with a grilled cheese sandwich and watch all of the Christmas cartoons. Love it!

Is Valentine''s considered a holiday? I think it is so dumb. When I found out FI spent 350 on flowers that died 2weeks later and stale chocolate, I made it a rule that we wouldn''t celebrate it anymore and we don''t.

I also don''t care for halloween.

I hate Christmas. I know I am supposed to love it, but I get seasonal affective disorder and that is the shortest daylight time of the year. Also MIL and FIL put tons of pressure on me to get them the perfect gift. Many times they asked for a receipt to return it. It had to be $$$ so I came to dread the shopping. FIL died this year so it should be easier. I also felt pressure to make Christmas perfect for the kids when they were small. It all became too much over time.
I LOVE Easter and Thanksgiving! All of the food and fun with none of the gifts (''cept chocolate!) and none of the decorating!

I WISH I could come to enjoy Christmas again!

I LOVE Thanksgiving and the Christmas season, even though I don''t personally celebrate Christmas. The only time I don''t listen to NPR is when a local radio station plays all Christmas music during the season.

If Valentine''s Day is a holiday I suppose that is my least favorite.

DH and I were married on the 4th of July, so I really love it, now. I wasn''t a huge fan before our wedding, though.

I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas too. I LOVE the warmth of the holiday spirit, snuggling up by the fire, decorating (hate it too, LOL but love it when it''s all done!), food, and being with (extended) family (in moderation!)... But it IS different now that our kids are older (they are both teens!)...used to be more fun when they were little...but I still love the ''feeling'' of Christmas.

Reasons I hate Christmas, certain family members pressuring us to do what they want us to do, EVERY year. my MIL expects us to do the SAME thing, every year, meaning we HAVE to go to her house Christmas Eve AND Christmas Day for dinner, after we leave my family''s party. If we didn''t go, she''d complain and have a hissy fit...in fact, last year I was SICK on Christmas Eve and we DIDN''T go to her house (the weather was bad too so we all just stayed home)...we went for Christmas Day dinner (but I came down with Bell''s Palsy Christmas day, see? I told her I was SICK!)...but the whole evening, she kept saying how it just wasn''t the same without us at her house on Christmas Eve.

I would really like to do things our way for once! Without the guilt trip...ugh.

My least favorite is Halloween. Little kids dressed up in cute costumes at my front door, cute...big, obnoxious, rude teens, expecting lots of candy and not even saying thank you, NOT cute.

I love Christmas but I hate having to listen to Christmas music and advertising and see store displays from October through December.

May I recommend people stop responding to pressure from families on holidays?

Just say no.

Fav: HALLOWEEN

Least FAV: Easter

Nobody can force you to do anything.
You choose to shop forever to find the perfect $$$ gift and include the receipt so the recipient can return it.
You choose to go to the dinner at the house of the relative you despise.
You are in control of what you do.

May I recommend people stop responding to unwanted pressures from families on holidays?

Just say no.
Nothing brings out the pretending in people like holidays and families.
I offer that people are happiest when how they are on the outside is as similar as possible to how they are on the inside.

fav: my birthday, your birthday, any birthday. for me the most important day of any years is one''s own birthday.

least fav: easter.

Kenny, you are a font of truth today!

Favorite: St. Patty''s Day and Thanksgiving... These are all about hanging out with friends and family, having a good time, and no stress!

Least Favorite: Halloween-I''m just not that into costumes!

My sister-in-law has pretty much been trying to give up the big holidays. Too much travel stress etc for her. Holidays should be enjoyed. I agree with you Kenny; if they are not a joyful time, what is the point??

Me? I have such a love affair with Christmas. Colorful Christmas lights make me happy........

I also love colored lights.
I am so strange I may just keep them up all year.
