My very first gambling was at age 8.
The family was having a party, outside, at a Sailing Club. Kids were allowed in the outside /beer garden area but not inside where the poker machines were. However the toilets were inside. I went to the Toilet inside. I saw the machines and was fascinated by them. A lady sitting at the machine asked me if I would like a “turn”. She gave me 5 cents, I put it in and pulled the lever. There was then this awful noise with flashing lights and all these coins fell out. Horrified I ran back to Mum and Dad and told them I had been bad and broke a machine inside. I was in tears. Dad took me back inside to see what problem I had caused and to apologize and the lady was beaming from ear to ear. I had won her a reasonable jackpot.
Never played one again.

Does Bingo count as gambling? I only every play when we’re on a cruise and it‘s $25. I have actually won a few times, so I’ve probably not lost that much.

1$ US.
We went to Vegas, got coins and after putting 4 quarters into a machine dh and I looked at each other puzzled, said : this is not fun

And that was the end of my gambling career. ..

Whenever I want to play the lottery (when there are those 250m jackpots - oh the bling I could buy!!) I get the same speech as @mrs-b , so never buy tickets.

Charity raffles don't count, IMHO, because I want to donate the money anyway . Whenever I "won" I usually split with my friends (usually edible prizes or toys in my area).

Does playing games at street fairs to win stuffed animals count as gambling? If so I gambled a lot when I was little. And you know what? I usually won.

I remember one time our dad took us to a carnival that was a distance away. My mom was out with friends and we had the evening to do whatever we wanted so that is what we chose. Well, I started winning everything in sight. So much so we filled the car and drove home and dropped off our loot and turned around and went back with an empty car just to win and win and refill it again. I really cleaned up that night hahaha.

My mom came home and saw we weren't home and found the living room and dining room filled with stuffed animals, glasses, other winnings. No cell phones existed in the early 1970s but she realized where we were and when we got home in the middle of the night she wasn't worried. Just exasperated that we had won so much stuff/junk and where were we going to put it all. LOL good times.

So if that qualifies as gambling I was probably around 8 years old. I started young. :wink2:

Was at the Venetian for work, and it was my birthday. I was gussied up and met work friends in the casino and had a cocktail. I put $20 in a machine and pressed buttons. Once it was done blinking and beeping, I was done. They say don’t gamble more than you can afford to lose, and that was my budget!

Ugh nothing, I would never waste precious money on gambling. I don't enjoy that sort of thing and see far too many oldies throwing away their merge pension on the pokies...

HI:

I buy Lotto tickets on occasion--they pile up in my wallet and I never win much of consequence. LOL.

cheers--Sharon

$50 over an entire Vegas weekend for my 40th bday girls weekend. Trying to stay on black jack table to score free drink. Never had a winning hand. Would have been cheaper to go to bar. I am not a gambler as house always wins. Rarely have done any lotto- only when office was betting on a big one so bought one ticket for a buck. Rather spend $ on jewels.

I rarely gamble and its usually a $2 lottery ticket every few months.
Most at one time was probably around $25 playing poker with friends while in college.
Most of the time none of us had much money so we played for pennies but occasionally it would go a bit nuts if 2 or more people happened to have money at the time.

Back in the day of the old South Africa sin city was a big deal
I went to RSA the first time on a Lions international group exchange
we could choose between a day trip to sin city or Petoria
I thoughrly enjoyed Petoria

Latter on we did breifly visit a casino - snake something
back then we didn't have casinos in NZ
i just found it a repulsive waste of money

He used to gamble after he finished work every evening. He emptied our bank account fairly rapidly & then he started to pawn his stuff. Eventually he confessed because he went looking for my jewellery to take to the pawn shop.He stopped that day & has never gambled again & thank goodness we have a healthy bank account again

$40 and that’s only in Vegas or at a similar fancy casino environment. We consider it an entertainment budget. We take $20-40 and try to stretch it out while enjoying a drink. We never win anything. We always go home empty handed, but we consider the loss roughly what we would spend going to a movie so worth it for some fun.

This happens maybe once per year.

Lots..... I took a big gamble being in love with my X husband & lost everything financially

I liked the first half of that statement and want to offer condolences on the second half. If you don't get lucky with your partner, you can lose a lot more than just cash :/

I've personally been gambling with bling. It's a calculated risk when I buy gems (or, more recently, jade) that may appreciate it depreciate in value over time. It's also a risk whether you're being sold something genuine or not, especially when it comes to colored stones and jade. Generally I keep these "risky" purchases to $1000 if I'm really tempted by what I think is a good buy, or under $200, so I feel ok to gift it away if I don't wish to keep it. I won't return something unless there's fraud and worth enough for me to spend time to pursue.
