Come on now.
The Truth!
Out with it.

I haven't gambled for 30+ years but I'd say I lost $200 max in a day at Vegas.

I''ve never gambled. I''ve maybe bought a few scratch and win tickets many years ago. I don''t play the lottery. I can''t fathom throwing away money like that.

$600. This was during college when daddy footed my bills. Nowadays, I quit once I lose around $100. I know it''s not my lucky day.

I remember taking out the max that my ATM allowed which was $300, then waiting until past midnight so that I could withdraw another $300. That quickly disappeared. The friend that I went to Vegas with was a platonic buddy, he also lost the same amount, and we ended up sleeping in the car because we didn''t even have credit cards at the time.

I''ve lost thousands...

... of Italian Lira when I was there with the Navy.

I also blew a staggering $2 on a cruise ship once.

This brings my grand total in losses to about US $4! I''m just not a fan of gambling. I''d be better off throwing it off a bridge. I think that would be more fun anyway!

are you gonna tell my wife?

$5 in nickels. I went with my brothers and their friends to play nickel slots. You actually did get to put the token in (traded nickles for tokens) and pull the handle. I think the time I went we all lost it all (though we won small amounts along the way, we lost that too) but the entertainment was well worth the $5!

Apparently one of the friends had once won $20 in nickels, and yes, it all came out of the machine for him to carry around.

$5. I played the scratch off lottery, won $5. So that was my "lottery" money. At that time our state didn''t have the lottery, but the once or twice a year we traveled through Virginia, I would take a dollar and spend that money. It took awhile, but ended up spending it all. Now for thrills maybe once a month I''ll spend $2 on the big lottery. Except for one 5$, no luck.

My husband went with his friend on a "free" trip to a casino riverboat. They each brought $100, lost that amount in the first 15 minutes, and then miserably hung out stuck on the boat the rest of the time trying to beg drinks off the bartender.

I usually just stick to the penny slots but regardless of how i''m gambling I treat it like a trip to an amusement park or something. If I had gone to DisneyWorld or something i''d blow 60 bucks or so on a ticket alone not including meals, etc. So I treat it as money that would be lost anyways as the cost of my entertainment for the day.

I played poker with friends in college for $10 a game. We didn''t play until someone won, just until we were tired and ready to go home, so on a good night I''d still have $5-10 and on a bad night I would bust out. The guys we played with were really good (and spent all of their spare time playing online) so just staying in the game for a few hours was pretty good. So I guess $10-15 at one time is as much as I''ve lost. I hate casinos and though I''ve been in them a handful of times, I''ve never bet anything. Betting money just makes me so nervous! It''s no fun for me.

A $2 horse race bet.
I have never bought a lottery ticket

DANG! I''ve lost probably $60 in one day at a casino.

My DH is a differeny story. He loves to gamble. Not slots, he likes horse tracks, poker, squares, and plays the lottery religiously. He claims to be breaking even most of the time. And honestly, I''ve been with him when he''s won some pretty big money at the tracks, so I trust him. He''d never lose the house or anything. He takes usually a couple hundred to the track, and I''ve never seen him walk away empty handed.

One pound weekly. I do the lottery group at work. Not sure why, I know it''s throwing the money away, but it''s fun and entertaining and I figure I can afford the whole 52 quid a year. That''s barely even the cost of a dinner out for two!

does the stock market count?

Something's fishy.
If you add up all the winnings in the "What's the most you've won gambling" thread and subtract the losses in this thread, Las Vegas should be broke.

I'm starting to wonder whether people'd rather talk about winnings than losses.

None!

I''ve never gambled.

But when I was in AC a couple weeks ago my best friend found 100$ and split it with me and we didn''t even spend it!

$20. The Florida lottery a long time ago.

That was 20 chances to win at 1 in 14,000,000 odds.

in tahoe one year I bummed a $5 chip off my then boyfriend and sat down at a blackjack table and got up to about $80 at which point he came and sat next to me and bummed chip after chip off of me until we''d lost all of it.

So I guess you could say $80 but really it''s $5 and not MY $5 at that lol

$50 of my own money, $25 of someone elses.

I hate gambling, haven''t gone in several years and have no intentions of going again. I like Lake Tahoe, but would be happy never returning to Vegas or Reno again.

$2 in slots etc. I am not a slots/game player. That is the total we played in our last two trips to Vegas (work retreats) - we did not play any money the second time.

We do buy lotto tickets for the occassional draw - a couple times a year. So $10 to $20 there. Its more about the fantasy of winning in those cases, but I do know people who have won so even if the odds are ridiculous it does happen, ha! The most I have won there is $70 once though.

Oh, and I guess there are a couple times I have entered the one of the hospital lotteries (eg. $100 for 3 tickets) as the money goes to the hospital and there are tons of prizes (and limited tickets sold). It is a hospital I like to support anyway for personal reasons.

I''d never been to a casino and thought I should tick off one of the items in my ''bucket list'' so DH and I went to one of the newer casinos and agreed we''d each play the slots until our stash of $20. was gone. It took forreeevvverrr... We then went to the bar and agreed that drinking good booze once in a while is a whole lot ''funner''

I''ve never been to a casino so the most I gamble is usually just family based card games or betting on sports. Bets rarely exceed $5, occasionally $10 and up until recently my parents would usually just throw money in for my brother and I. So most losses in one day would probably be $10. I''m actually fairly lucky but I just don''t like gambling.

only gambled once.won 25.00 or 26.00 on the nickel slots.that was 20 years ago

I''m not a gambler myself. The most I''ve ever lost is $20. I walked into the boat, lost $20 and walked back out.

My dad who is a HUGE gambler has lost thousands on one football game let alone one day or one trip. As I recall, their tax return this year went directly to a bookie.

$100 My dh and i have been to vegas a bunch of times and always allocate $100 to slot machines and the computer screen black jack. We have a lot of fun and by gambling that way, get free drinks (with just paying a tip per drink), and when the money is gone, we do other activities.

In the casino, I usually let myself lose $200 max at one time. So over time, it probably adds up to thousands now.
DH let himself loses $1000 or so. So you do the math there.

Let''s not talk about the stock market. haha.

I was raised in Las Vegas, so I learned early on that the house always wins.

That being said, I think I may have lost $100 in one $25 slot machine on my 21st birthday. However, over the next few years, I hit 2 royal flushes for with $20 in separate machines about 3 weeks apart.

Since then, I won''t bet more than $20 per visit.

On a trip to Vegas we allow ourselves to lose $1000 and that''s the limit. We''ve lost that much plenty of times which may be why we''re going there less.

I think I have mentioned before that I don''t gamble because statistically, you always lose (eventually). But once I bought a lottery ticket (I was ten at that time) and it won a token sum. It was lying in my wallet, and that day my wallet was stolen at a school wardrobe and the wallet cost ten times as much as what I have won! Since that day, I do not gamble, I do not raffle, I never put my names on lottery lists ("no purchase necessary"). I just never win!

Which makes total sense because I always pray about not losing.

Hi,

In my younger days I didn''t gamble at all, but now I enjoy Las Vegas once or twice a year. My limit is $100.00 a day losses. If I''m there for 5 days, $ that allows me to lose $500.00. I have crossed this threshold once. But I usually never win, so I include the loss in my vacation spending.

I also go to the race track once a year. Just went this thursday to Arlington in Il. I usually pick up the tab for entrance and lunch and we stay for 6 races. Maybe the day costs me $25.00, but its a great day for me.

I once won $300.00 at Bingo, a game I hate. A friend dragged me there and I just kept winning. Never went back to Bingo again.
