I found an old photo album the other day as I was going through some boxes, and the pictures made me laugh hysterically. I wish I had a scanner because I''d post them if I could.

When I started college, I was really homesick for a while. It''s funny now because I was only 1.5 hours from home, but I didn''t like being "so far" from my family. Anyway, my parents had a rule that I had to stay at school until Columbus Day break. I guess they thought that if they let me come home before that, I''d want to come home every weekend. I guess to help make me perk up, my dad sent me a care package.

In it was a letter that my dad had typed up from the "Friend of the Month Club." It said that I now was a member of the club and once a month, I''d have a new friend to pal around with. The series of pictures included in this package were hilarious. My dad had bought one of those inflatable punching (bop) bags that looked like a wrestler. He took pictures of it with my family doing random things, and notes that said things like, "you, too, could be enjoying hours of time with your new friend." It showed my sister reading him a book, my dad driving with him in the passenger seat of his car, my mom serving him dinner, our family dog curled up with him, etc. Not long after I received this package, my family surprised me by coming to visit me at school -- and they brought Stanley, my new wrestler friend.

We still laugh about it -- 18 years later!

We were in Ireland a few years ago and we were at dinner with our travel group. There was a very rude, loud obnoxious woman with our group who was flailing all around at her table, trying to be the center of attention. My cousin got up from our table, and she had a fork in her hand. As she was walking by the flailing womans chair, the woman hit her arm just right, and the fork stuck into her head, and pulled her wig off!!!! Everyone at her table was then laughing hysterically, and the woman got really angry! She kept shooting my cousin nasty looks all through dinner-blatantly turning around in her chair and scowling! My cousin was upset, but we all thought it was pretty funny and still laugh about it.

This is probably really weird and twisted, but my dad and brothers and I used to play a game called "Who Survives the Horror Movie."

Oh yeah, my mom never participated.

My dad was the axe murderer/zombie/vampire whatever, and we''d have to find a way to escape to the swing set in the yard (the safe zone). It sounds ridiculous but it was hysterical. He''d do all the voices and it would get SUPER suspenseful haha! Someone would always run upstairs or try to lock themselves in a room and would inevitably get fake murdered. And then of course if it was a zombie or vampire game, then the person who was killed becomes a member of the zombie or vampire squad, upping the challenge.

I''m telling you, there was strategy involved

that is such a sweet (and funny) story ZoeBartlett :)

I''ve got a couple funny stories but they''re so looong when you write them out!

One shorter one I can think of, last winter we took the kids sledding. JD and London were already up the hill and I was trying to lug Trapper, who was 2, up the stupid hill. London was going nuts to do it herself, so JD let her go on her own. I''d set Trapper down b/c dang he was heavy, so we were watching her..she flew down the hill and right as she was across from us, she stuck her foot out and LAUNCHED out of the sled and did somersaults all the way down the hill. I have NEVER in my entire LIFE seen anything like that before. I tell you what, upon further reflection once I was able to speak again, I was very glad I''d set Trapper down or I''d have dropped him. I fell to the ground in hysterics-I didn''t even wait to see if she was ok. I have an embarrassing laugh when I get to going-one of those shrieking gasping raspy maniac belly laughs, and it sounds funny which makes me laugh more..tears streaming down my face, couldn''t talk, couldn''t move a muscle. I laid in the snow and screeched. Trapper was petrified-he started bawling. London finally skidded to a halt and sat up w/her hat askew and snow all over her face, with a big grin. And that made me laugh more. She trudged up the hill beaming from ear to ear and said "Mommy didja SEE me??" and I seriously wondered if it was possible to laugh so hard you vomit. All I could think was, that was a once in a lifetime thing to see and we didn''t have the video camera. We would''ve made some money on that one. For about a week any time I tried to tell the story I''d have to sit down and I''d start crying from laughing. Bwhahaha it still makes me laugh!

Okay, question: are moms suppose to participate in stuff like that? I always wonder if we''re okay letting loose or are suppose to maintain composure so the kids listen to us. lol Ugh, I shouldn''t even be posting here b/c I''ve had a couple beers. On a side note, my husband loves zombie movies. This has nothing to do with anything, but Fido is a hilarious movie for Zombie fans.

Funniest moment I can remember involving family members.

My Dad always loved to sneak up on us or hide in the dark upstairs when we were coming up to bed, etc. He''d jump out and scream and watch the hysterics of whichever one of us was the victim.

My little brother must have been about 4 or 5 and was in the upstairs bathroom getting done with his bath. Mom had given him a towel and he was standing in the bathtub drying off and singing/playing around. My Dad came up the stairs and around the corner to the bathroom and yelled BOO or something to that effect.

Well my little brother must have had to go to the bathroom (i.e. ahem... #2), and when my Dad spooked him, and he screamed at the top of his lungs, it literally scared the crap out of him! Like, all over the bathtub, towel, you name it. Sick, really.

It was hysterically funny at the time, and of course he was hysterically crying, my older brother and I were just dying, and to this day, it might be the funniest thing that has ever happened in our family.

I'm a mom and I plan on playing that game for sure, because it's a total riot!

My mother however, was in the "This game is too scary" camp, so she always stayed out of it. She played other dumb games, just not that particular game. IMO, moms are like the umpire. Play the games, but if they get too out of control or someone gets hurt, intervene. Mom is the umpire.

lol Okay, I''ll try something like that out. My kids are at the perfect age for more action.

In the past they''ve liked another game where I spread a blanket out and they lay down in it and are wrapped up into an egg and are the baby spiders who pop out. It''s beyond weird. After they''re "born," they eat "mashed potato bug salad," "lady bug soup," etc. They beg me to be the mama spider all the time. lol

Gross but hilarious.

Thanks Maevie and Oddoneout! My dad''s great. Getting that package and then having my family visit with my new friend was a nice way to forget about being homesick.

These stories are great!

we have MANY classic stories in my house, but the one that makes us lol.....

my parents were on there way home from a party and my mom had to pee. they were in the middle of nowhere in the dark so my dad pulls over. my mom gets out, pees and wipes with a tissue......she took the cotton candy from the party and wiped herself
32.gif
....she gets back in the car and is now sticky "down there" and can''t figure it out. my dad said what did you do....she tells him and he is laughing so hard he''s crying in the car. she grabbed the cotton candy instead of the tissues in the dark and didn''t realize. needless to say everytime we are at a family party someone gives her a bag for the ride home

and she was stone cold sober

I was homesick when I first went to university as well- my dad didn`t send a package (he`s not really a goofy guy most of the time) but he showed up at my door (3.5 hours from home) and spent a few days with me..

wow! that is hilarious - I can`t imagine how your mother could have done that! she sounds like a good sport though :)

These stories are priceless!

My mom does a lot of funny stuff, so there''s a lot to choose from. But the best BY FAR was when I was preparing to study abroad. My university was having an info session for parents and students, and it was right after the war in Iraq started, so there was a lot of info about terrorism abroad, not calling attention to yourself as an American, etc.

My parents and I were...well, in a mood. I''d been up all night for a Relay for Life event, so I hadn''t slept, and my mom wasn''t feeling well, and my dad was just being goofy. Anyway, there were these AWFUL instructional videos about not wearing big red hats and talking obnoxiously (because this will make you a target of terrorism)- and because that''s what American college students are going to do abroad: wear a big red hat with feathers to call attention to ourselves by waving our hands in the air. I

In the middle of the video, my mom decided to drink some Alka-seltzer. But she put it in a water bottle and then shook it a little with the cap on. So as the video is going on about being inconspicuous, my mom unscrews the top of the water bottle and it goes BOOM! There was literally a cloud of smoke. My dad and I looked over at each other and totally lost it.

Best time I ever had in a lecture hall at school.
