What's the deal with beauty boxes?

I'm from the UK so the boxes will be different but I love beauty boxes, I subscribe to Cohorted beauty box and Look Incredible deluxe beauty box which are more expensive than the usual beauty boxes but have brands like Too Faced, Clinique, Benefit, Urban Decay, Clarins.

To me it's fun getting a surprise each month, it encourages you to try new things you might not look twice at.

I've only been really unhappy with one box which sent all bath products, I don't have a bath and I was hoping for a mixture of makeup, skincare and relaxation bits.

Have you checked out mysubscriptionaddition? It has all of the beautyboxes, and other boxes for that matter for the US.

I have been getting Birchbox for a year. It is fun to get a package every month. I have bought several full size products after getting samples. Half the samples I usually give away. Overall I am happy.

Hello! I know this isn't answering the question you are asking but just wanted to share what I personally do. I'm a big fan of Sephora and I try to limit myself on beauty products but whenever I go back to the store for a refill on something that runs out, I just ask for samples around the store that I want to try. There is a bit more effort since you have to find out what you want and ask for it via getting it directly shipped. Just wanted to share an alternative. Have a great day!

PierreBear has a great point - getting samples you WANT! I tried Ipsy for a year and there were more misses than hits. Plus I had to pay for ipsy, whereas Sephora samples are FREE.

I've only tried the Target ones. I like those because they have skincare, hair, and makeup samples. Love them for travel purposes. The usually come with a $5 off a $15 coupon, too. I have been suprised by some things I've liked that I never would've tried on my own.

When I need to replace beauty stuff I get from Nordstroms I usually order online because you get to pick 3-5 samples from about 20 during checkout.

I wish I had a Sephora closer to me! That is a great idea. I have heard great things about their monthly box but there is a waiting list. Overall I think the boxes are fun. It is a small treat and I try things I would have never tried before. I have found some great hair products from Birchbox. I am also slightly obsessed with their tinted chapstick.

I got several boxes for about a year. Most of them had no name products. Was fun to get one every month but you can only use so many cosmetics. I must have 2 dozen little zip bags. I discontinued because of the no name products. Would be nice to get something you could actually find in a store.

I've never heard of beauty boxes but clicked onto this thread to see if there was something new I could learn.


I second Pierrebear and vote for free samples fwiw LV. If that is a possibility that is.

I also wanted to mention that Sephora has an excellent return policy. Obviously, minimizing waste is nice, so sampling products is a good idea. However, I have never had an issue returning anything at Sephora, for any reason, so if you buy, try it, and it doesn't work, you can always return it.
I have not tried any beauty boxes.

Momhappy I have to admit I have no clue what I'm doing with makeup and don't wear much because of my super sensitive skin (and I know lots of people say their skin is super sensitive but trust me when I say mine is). But I have seen how the right makeup applied well can transform people and give them a much needed boost of self confidence allowing them to feel their best and thereby being their best. That can go a long way helping boost one's comfidence and nourish one's soul and I respect that. All within reason of course. But wow I saw a few videos (shared on PS) showing a teenager with ravaged skin re pustules, pimples etc and how makeup made her feel beautiful inside and out. So in that sense it can do good. And anything that makes one feel more confident allowing their inner beauty to come through is good right?

Of course by the time we have acquired age and wisdom I hope we have gained perspective about superficial appearance.

I agree. I know that we (as a society) put to much emphasis on outer beauty, but darn, most days I truly enjoy being a girl I like makeup, fashion, etc. and yes, those things can be confidence-boosters (and feed your inner beauty).
