The stone was rotating on a turntable with a black background. A spotlight with a blue filter illuminated the stone while it was filmed with a professional movie camera.
What you are seeing is a few stills snapped from the video.
The affect was used for a TV advertisement we had produced, the effects where so cool I had to share them with my mates on Pricescope

Banishing to Siberia certainly would be a bit harsh, since it was an unfair trick question.
I do agree it does look technical, that''s why I knew most would be fooled.
I would think that the blue light coming off the stone is more likely to be reflection than light refracted out even though the angle of incidence looks pretty low.
The stone is lying on its side on the pavilion.
