I don''t know DF. I just take a break from PS when there is drama in my life or I consult my real life friends. I have shared things after the fact here on PS when I''ve come to terms with it in my own time. The creation of multiple user names I thought was against PS policy/rules but apparently that isn''t enforced? *shrugs* At any rate I read and move on. I find that I''m less likely to offer my two cents to an anonymous poster rather than a member whether they''ve posted 10 times or 10,000 times. That''s just me, though.

There''s definitely been a ''wave'', and it seems pretty spread over the Cafe/non-jewelery related sub-forums. Most don''t really seem warranted. I''m the same; if there''s something serious going on, I''ll talk to my friends.
Can you imagine an anonymous poster on RT? I imagine it would be someone in a trenchcoat and sunglasses, with a thread along the lines of, ''I bought a CZ. I liked it. Help!''![]()
Charmy, they are talking about people who create a second account, usually "Anon_____" or something else discreet and not tied to their normal account to post about personal problems and get advice. There is one here in Hangout called "AnonForThis", and an "anon#######" (don''t remember the numbers specifically) in FHH I think. They were bothing having personal issues that they wanted to be anonymous for and still get advice on.Date: 5/18/2010 11:57:23 PM

But how do you post without logging in?
Speaking of, I plan on creating an anonymous account to post a "moderately included" stone that I''m in LURVE with. Good idea!Date: 5/19/2010 12:10:19 AM

I guess some people are more concerned about their image on PS. I wish they wouldn''t do that, though, we''re all human and have real life problems.
i''m not one of those people.Date: 5/19/2010 12:21:14 AM

I can completely understand why some people think it''s necessary to post anonymously. Although everyone can claim not to be judgmental and what not, I''ve seen several instances on this board where people have brought up someone''s past conversation and held it against them, or told them " I can''t believe you''re saying ___ because before you said ______. There are also some on here and have shared enough of their lives so that a friend or family member that they might refer to this board may be able to figure out who they are. An anonymous post allows them to get some feedback without the directed judgment. I have been a member of a board where they had an open anonymous account. Anyone could log on and post anonymous questions. It worked well. I think the creation of 500 different "fake" accounts clogs the system.
But then i wonder if they are getting sound advice. Part of giving advice usually depends on the circumstances and knowing one''s past history is important. For example, we might give the advice to a woman who''s husband has cheated recently to stick it out or go to counseling etc. However, we would be giving different advice if we knew that the husband was a serial cheater. We''re not getting the whole picture when someone goes anonymous.Date: 5/19/2010 12:04:52 PM

If it''s that big of a deal people should reconsider seeking online advice. They can be tracked by their IP address, their service provider, and ultimately their real identity if the right person wanted to know. That''s not likely, but I do see the value in the opinions of the people who post here, so I suppose it serves a purpose.
