I was wondering if anyone could tell me what''s going on with the cloudiness inside this stone. Is it simply heat treatment, or is that indicative of some kind of filling.
From what I understand, that''s just how most rubies are. It is very rare to find a ruby that is eye clean and a great shade of red-therefore they are massively expensive.
But I''ve never dealt with rubies before, so maybe someone else will chime in...
You'll need to take it to a gemologist to have it looked at properly in person.
I don't really do rubies myself as I have a personal hatred of any kind of opacity in transparent gemstones. I only like the really fine ones and since I haven't yet won the lottery I prefer spinels where you can get a better quality stone for a lot less than you would pay for a so-so ruby.
Its definitely been heated I can tell just by looking at it but what else beyond simple heat is more difficult and requires lab work. More than likely glass filled also, assume that most heated rubies are until proven otherwise.
