It''s a 4ctw 15 diamond Platinum eternity band. The diamonds are F and average clarity of VS1 The platinum is 950 and weighs 9.1 grams. It''s a shared prong setting. Someone is selling it because it was supposed to be an engagement ring but unfortunately it didn''t work out . It''s local and the ring is actually my size.

I''ve heard eternity bands can be uncomfortable so I''m not sure about it. I would want to make sure that if I did buy it that if it was uncomfortable I could resell it on my own without losing much, if anything. He''s asking $6400. I don''t want to inconvenience him until I have an idea what a fair price would be....one that would also enable me to sell it if it was uncomfortable. Any ideas on an eternity ring of this size? Thanks!

Well Amy:

This is a hard question to answer. 4ctw for 15 diamonds comes to approx. 1/4 carat on each individual diamond. Who says the diamonds are F and VS1. How does the craftsmanship on the ring look?

The gentleman is probably asking close to retail for what he purchased the ring at. I would see if he would get an independent appraisal done if your really serious about buying to verify (1) The quality of the Diamonds (2) The quality of the workmanship on the ring. (3) A fair market assessment at what the ring is worth (This is different than the appraised value for insurance purposes).

If everything would turn out in your favor as far as the qouted color, clarity and quality of the diamonds, I would really low ball the guy since he is in a pinch to sell...

It sounds mean, but the balls in your court. I would take a weary approach to the purchase and excercise all your options before going through with anything...

I would go and try on some shared prong eternity bands to see if they are comfortable. I love them myself, but before I bought, I did try them on to be sure. I have a 3.38 TCW shared prong eternity band that I bought from Signed Pieces a while back. If it''s comfortable on you. Then I''d ask the seller if you can have it independently appraised. You want to know if the stones are well cut. Color and clarity are one thing but CUT is what makes a diamond beautiful. So get it independently appraised and go from there. Good luck!!!

Hi, Amy....

I agree with Josh and Kaleigh...do your homework, have it appraised, and be sure it''s really the ring you want. I wouldn''t buy it thinking I could "get my money back" sometime down the road. (Unsizable eternity bands are hard to sell...as this person is probably learning...)

If everything''s right, then make a SERIOUSLY lowball offer!!

Good luck, and keep us posted!

HI:

Both my mother and I have had diamond chipping issues with our eternity rings, hence I would want an IA to determine not only the quality of the stones, but the state of "wear and tear".

cheers--Sharon

Ok it''s me the original poster, decapr! For some reason I absolutely could not login. crazydogs will be me now, got the name since my dogs were running around like crazy when I was trying to think of a name.

Here''s the guys ad :

"One lady''s platinum and diamond eternity band. The band measures 22.96mm in diameter by 4.29mm wide, and is shared-prong set with 15 round brilliant ideal cut diamonds. Total diamond carat weight is 4.05 with average color of F and average clarity at VS1. Symmetry and polish are excellent. The platinum has a high polish finish, in very good condition, weighs 9.10 grams, and is PT950 grade (95% pure platinum and 5% iridium based alloy). The price here is $3,000 off a nearly identical ring currently selling already at a discount for $9,450 at

Pictures are available at the provided link. This is the same company where I purchased the ring. As the engagement did not work out (in fact, the ring was never worn), I am now selling the ring for $6,450 or best offer made. The appraised value is $15,480. "

You guys say to lowball.....any idea on a $ figure assuming it is as he describes a 15 diamond, 4.05 tcw F/VS1 Platinum? I have no idea where to start on a lowball (I feel bad doing it but honestly I''m looking for a rhr and would never spend what this ring would normally go for)

Thanks for all the help!

Amy

200 dollars x 15 quarter carat stones = 4000 dollars

Wouldn''t make an offer without an independent appraisal.

Amy,
I''ve bought an eternity ring from Diamond Design Company. They do send you an appraisal (that he should have and should provide you if you buy it). The appraisal is inflated of course. My replacement value was 1.8 times higher than the price I paid for the ring. So if you assume 1.8, then he probably bought the ring for 8600. Just a guess. In any case, the melee diamonds from DDC are excellent. They are the same quality and color as the melee from Signed Pieces. Good luck! Top is SP F/VS1 8 pts each. Bottom is DDC F/VS1 7 pts each.
