What would you get

Hi all,

I finally finished my doctorate, and my mom generously gave me $600 to buy something that I wanted. I have no idea what to get!! What would you get if you had $600 to spend??

This setting would run you just a hair over. If you could make up the difference, it would look lovely! Take a look at this one.

I'd get the best little diamond that I could afford, that meets my all desires, and then I'd stash it away while I save for a pair of sapphires to add as side stones. Then, I'd stash the sapphire pair away with the diamond while I save even more for a platinum three-stone band setting.

Or, maybe find a well-cut brown diamond to eventually set as a solitaire over a pavé band.

Or, a pear for a pendant.

Thanks Lorelei and Ellen!!! I had considered a sweet little diamond like that beautiful one! I also have a soft spot in my heart for OEC''s. AND I have always wanted a ruby/diamond ring of some sort because my kid''s birthday''s are July and April. Too many choices and I''m afraid I''ll change my mind after I pull the trigger!

I can''t believe you wrote that about the OEC! That was my very first thought, then, I changed my mind about writing it... I don''t know why. Too funny. There is something about the sparkle of an OEC that is just so gorgeous and unmistakable. But again, once you get your mitts on the OEC of your dreams, what to do with it?

Perhaps, you''ve answered your own question... something with a ruby and diamond would be lovely. How about an OEC now, and ruby(ies) later? You know you''ll never be satisfied until you do it... Of course, the problem is that the diamond/ruby piece would be to celebrate your children. THIS occasion is to celebrate YOU. *SIGH* Back to the drawing board, I see!

What to do....what to do....

I''m afraid of ebay although I know many pricescopers have found beautiful deals there. I bought a small diamond right hand ring on ebay years ago, and it looked like frozen spit. ha ha I guess I just didn''t know how to tell quality from junk. I love the OEC and the whiteflash diamonds too. I think I would want something I could wear everyday like a ring or bracelet maybe--I change my necklaces often with my outfits per my job. *aarrgghh*.

Is there a vendor that anyone could recommend that sells mountings for 1 stone that doesn''t look like an engagement ring? I would like for it to be a right hand ring. Most of the settings I''ve seen for 1 stone are clearly for engagement rings....Also, lets say I buy either the whiteflash one or an OEC and then find a setting. Who mounts it and how do I know if the stone will fit?

AND then there''s the possibility of the thrill of the hunt--antique stores or pawn shops...
