So I posted a couple of threads here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/i-could-really-use-some-help-finding-a-setting.136448/ and here
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/another-newbie-question.136734/ and now I have more info and more questions.

I''ve been looking around online and contacted Pearlman''s about Beverly K setting http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/beverley-k-jewelry/rings/111PP1/ and received a price quote. It would be around $1900 to do for my .41 round stone with the rose gold halo.

I went back to my jeweler today (where my diamond is) to ask more questions and get more info on their end. I was told if I want a halo it will have to be custom with a diamond my size. I was given a price quote and after tax it would be $2700 if they made it.

Here is the comparison

Beverly K Ring: 18k gold
Custom Ring: 14k gold

Beverly K Ring: 1.8 mm band
Custom: 2mm band

Beverly K: .23 ctw
Custom: .38 ctw

Positives about Beverly K: it''s quite a bit cheaper and I love all the small details on it that the custom ring wouldn''t have. 18k gold

Negatives about getting the Beverly K through Pearlman''s: It''s out of state so I wouldn''t have the security of having a jeweler nearby to do free cleanings/checkups/etc.

Positives about custom ring: Jeweler is nearby and they include a lifetime guarantee. I can easily have the ring cleaned/inspected/fixed for free. more ctw, slightly thicker band.

Negatives about custom ring: it wouldn''t be as detailed (but still pretty) and the cost is about $700 more than we wanted to spend.

Just wanted to see what you guys would do if you were me? We are pretty scared to actually take the plunge because we don''t want to make the wrong decision.

Thanks everyone!

I''m no expert, but I would think there is nothing as good as the original. Of course I think it all depends on your taste. I know someone was saying that sometimes even if you don''t buy a diamond/setting through some jewelers if you go in they may clean/inspect it for free in hopes of building a relationship for future purchases. Of course every jeweler is different. If you are worried about that I would call around and ask. Are there any Beverly K authorized dealers in your area? Maybe even if you buy through Pearlmans you could take it there to be inspected to keep up the warranty? I''m sure others can lead you in the right direction.

I''d rather have Beverly K over an unknown quality pave-- and over many known pave makers as well. As for having a jeweler nearby... you can get your setting checked anywhere, I do. I have a couple good jewelers near me... when I had a white gold setting I used a local jeweler for plating (didn''t need it often, but when I did, got it done locally), when needed sizing, I did the same thing. Now I have a platinum setting and I''ve gotten it checked, cleaned, and polished locally.

That''s not to say that it''s the right decision for everyone. But I move every few years... local jewelers change for me.

This is a no-brainer for me. I would go with the Bev-k. You know what you are getting. You are always somewhat taking
a chance when going custom that you dont like how it turns out. With the price difference and knowing Bev K is a good
reputable brand (and so is Pearlmans) I would go with them. If you do have any problems in the future you''ve got $800
extra dollars to cover it (diff between the 2700 - 1900). Almost any jewelry store is happy to clean your rings and check
your prongs because they want your business. Its something they usually do as a courtsey so dont let that sway you.

I''d absoultely get the Bev K. It''s the ORIGINAL

, it''s a better price, and you''re guaranteed the quality (what if the custom turns out a bit "off?")

Also, you CAN get your ring cleaned/checked locally. I go into a local chain store (Ben Bridge) ALL THE TIME and they always clean my ring and they insist on cleaning all my other pieces too! They know while the pieces are being cleaned a person tends to window shop and that can lead to future purchases. Another chain that''s great about doing cleanings is Kay Jewelers. They always take the time to do a great job even though I''ve never purchased there or will plan to.

I''m (kind of) in the same situation as you, trying to decide between a Beverly K at Pearlmans and a local ring. I contacted Pearlmans and they informed me that Beverly K lets you make small changes to the ring at no extra charge. I''m not sure what "small" means, but you could always just ask if you could, for example, make the shank thicker, which it seems like you want. It seems to me like Pearlmans is great at taking care of you, and I think you would be very happy with a Beverly K. I''m probably going to end up going with them if they can make the few changes that I want for the ring I am considering. Good luck!

I would still get the Beverly K and find a local jeweler who is comfortable with the repairs.

That is a complete and total no brainer to me. Beverly K *all the way*. Any reputable jeweler can do minor repairs locally, that should not even factor in to your decision in my opinion.
