After noticing the topics about "steep deep," I''d like to find out more about my diamond.
The specs are:
1.31 carat, F VS1

6.96 x 7.00 x 4.33 mm
Depth: 62.0%
Table size 57.0%
Crown angle 35.5 degrees
Crown height 15.5%
Pavilion angle: 40.8 degrees
Pavilion depth: 43.0%
star length: 50%
lower half: 80%
girdle: medium to slight thick

It sparkles really well, but the cut adviser gives it 2.7. Most people do find it a fireball. In some light settings however, I do notice the middle darkens and I don''t know if it''s just reflections, different lighting, or if it doesn''t have optimal light return. Maybe I just have too much PS knowledge and I''m panicking over a minor issue!

I''m going to reset the diamond using BGD, and if it really is steep deep or something else, I''d like to know whether it''s worth looking into a recut. Unfortunately, I do not have any idealscope pictures.

Well, if you are going to BGD, they can show you the ASET/IS, then ask their opinion if it is worth a re-cut.

From the numbers alone, it is on the edge, depends on the rounding of numbers by GIA, optical symm and if the the cutter knows what he is doing, it could be fine.

The diamond is borderline and it could be perfectly fine! You are in an ideal position with having Brian look at your diamond to get his opinion on whether a recut is a valid possibility. If the angle averages are tight overall it could be a great looking diamond, but I am sure once you have discussed the stone with Brian once he has seen it you will have a much better idea whether to leave it alone or whether a tweak or recut would be the best course of action.

Okay, thanks for your help!

Most welcome and let us know what happens.

The diamond likely performs well because of the 40.8 degree pavilion angle... Keep in mind that the pavilion (lower half of the diamond) is the primary reflective surface which directs light back up towards the person viewing the diamond... Thus while the crown angle is a bit steep and the girdle is a smidge thick, which result in the deeper total depth and lower HCA score, that the pavilion angle is ''dead on'' and thus a kind of saving grace...

The highlighted passage is the most important phrase in your post.

Well, the final verdict came in...while Brian Gavin said he could do a little recutting, it really wasn''t going to be worth it. So, it''s simply going to be put into a new setting! Now I just gotta wait!!!
