Ohhh - this is a game my friends and I often play! I'm the designated person in our group who comes up with the potential tombstone engravings! Because I tend to be highly organized and very task focussed - often to the discomfort of my nearest and dearest - I'd like my tombstone to read "Why aren't I in charge of more things?" - which is pretty funny from multiple directions, when you think about it.
My best friend in the States always says my engraving should read "Some of us are forces of nature...and some of us, merely leaves." Hmmm....
My best friend in Australia has said it should read "Some of us are born to greatness - and some of us are victims of that greatness."
I see a theme here. But at least I know this about myself and can laugh at it; it's part of my charm!
ETA I just asked my husband what he'd want to engrave on my tombstone, and he said he'd put - "Here lies my heart."
And to think - I didn't think there was anything about this thread that could make me cry! Dang, I love that man!
We used to go to a really old cemetery in deep woods East Texas where my great-great grandparents were buried. My sister and I were little girls so we got a huge kick out of one of the markers there. It said:
Nights are made for lovin'
Money is made to spend
God bless me. Amen.
I’ll be cremated, not buried, so I won’t have an epitaph. But once I pass, I’d like people to remember me by the following: “to live is to laugh, and to love (and eat, let’s not forget eat). She was a connoisseur in all three.” (Inside joke about my love for food and inappropriate jokes in there. I want people to celebrate my life at my funeral, not cry over me).
