1975 Datsun. Datsun does not exist anymore. I think Nisson is the same company as Datsun. It was 1986 and the car was a hand me down from my grandfather to my brother to me. It had 250,000 miles on it by the time I got it. Piece of junk but I was so proud of the fact that I had access to my own car!!

Edited to add, the first car I actually bought myself was during college after the Datson died. It was a used toyota tercel. It was 1988 and the toyota I bought was a 1983 model. It seemed so new compared to the old datson.

My very first brand new car I ever bought ws 1991. A little mazda. I was so proud of that car and kept it until 1997 when I became a mom and I needed a bigger car so I gave it to my then husband. He kept it until 2002. It was still in good shape but he wanted a nicer new car and I respected that.

My high school graduation present was a used 67 Plymouth Barracuda. My parents wanted me in a big old boat, but I prevailed. I think they only bought it because they were tired of my denting the family car.

I saved up for ages (wasn't allowed to have a proper job in high school, so it was only babysitting and piano lesson money I earned) in order to pay my parents $500 to buy their 1984 Mitsubishi Tredia from them in 1996.

It was a good car, but it had some very funny quirks by the end of its life--heat always came through the vents at full blast no matter what the controls said, the gas gauge was always off by 1/4 of a tank, it flat out could *not* go over 50mph--and when it got to 40mph, the steering wheel shook and the driver's seat vibrated so much it would make the driver's teeth chatter. But it was a good car.

A 1994 Ford Ranger. Plastic seats, no heat/A/C, no radio (installed the latter after purchase). I paid $7995 and I was so proud of that truck.

1988 Subaru Hatchback

I turned 16 in 1999...my parents bought me a black Acura CL I used while I learned to drive. For my 16th birthday my parents ordered me a 2000 Jaguar S-type (the re-released model) in white with carmel leather. I was actually the first person in IL to have one--mine was delivered ahead of schedule in late 1999. I

that car. Sadly I let it go a few years later ...

1990 Plymouth Voyager minivan - Blue with wood paneling. Yes, I was a seriously cool high schooler. Technically it was my parents'' car, but I drove it from 16 till I got my first car of my own a few years later, which was a 1996 hyundai sonata.

White 1994 Honda Prelude (old body style)

I always wanted a Jag, but my parents are "Lexus people." I do love my car, it''s the perfect size for me.

My first car was a 1980 Chevy Citation red 2-door hatchback. It was Car of the Year in 1980. The year I bought it was 1998. I paid $250 for it from a dealership. I sold it a year and a half later for $375. The vehicle I bought then has been long dead, but my old Citation still motors around this town!

Mine was a 1994 Saturn sl1. Not much too it but it was a really good car. And it got 40mpg!!!!

''69 VW Bug. It was really old and the windows fogged up. I had it about six months and then someone ran a stop sign and crashed into me.

I think it was 1981 and it was a used emerald green volkswagen scirocco with tan interior not sure the year...

1980 Buick Skylark (light blue with plaid interior)....it was 7 years old and the engine blew up after 6 months, lol.

My first "brandy new" car was a 1988 Pontiac Fiero (burgundy with luggage rack)....I loved that car!

1991 Acura Legend.. It was 11 years old at the time, which isn''t very old for a car. But this car was terrrrrrible! It was all black with black leather interior (in Texas heat!), the AC didn''t work, neither did the tape player, I had to put oil in it once a week, it smoked out the back, and it made clicking noises when I turned the steering wheel. But I was SSOOOO glad to get to drive anything!

What''s so funny to me is that 10 years before when my dad got it for himself it was such a nice car! It really just did not hold up its value at all.

A very used Chevy Nova, purchased near 1975...

My Dad got me a 1979 Chevy Nova for my Senior Year in High School.....I graduated in 1980. It was two door, silver exterior with maroon interior....really cool car!
