I remember once in my youth when I always had beautifully manicured fingers. That was all in the very distant past. My nails look horrendous. My cuticles are a mess. What can I use on them to look healthy and not so ragged. I also start my guitar lessons in less than 3 weeks so I am keeping my nails short and thought I would just use a clear nail hardener or ???

Please I am a hopeless and I could use all the help I can get! ;(

Mine aren't exactly hand model worthy-I'm a picker. But when I do mess w/my nails, I use a thing that buffs and shines them and then I rub cuticle remover onto my cuticles. Then I get out the sugar scrub and rub it all over my hands and nails, rinse and then rub cuticle oil on. Then I smear the excess off on a towel and put clear or shiney stuff on my nails. Might not be the proper way, but it seems to work. I read/heard somewhere that it's good to massage your cuticles (feels good too) so when I rub the remover and then the oil in I spend a little extra time in the rubbing.

Hi soocool,

Apologies if this is not available where you are, but the best thing I've used is a cuticle
oil by Creative Nails called SolarOil.
It often comes highly recommended from nail techs.

Perhaps if it is not something available there, one of the PS nailtechs can suggest an equivalent..?

I would also suggest taking a hair, skin and nails vitamin to improve and strengthen
your overall nail condition - I didn't take one in the past as I was skeptical of their effectiveness,
but I saw a marked improvement and growth with my nails when I took a course (bottle) recently.

Good luck! as you can likely guess, I have had to tackle this myself in the past..

There are 2 things to keep in mind when it come to cuticles: They grow and they need to be whipped into shape!

At home you will need to push them - perhaps trim them and after that is done - you will need to maintain them with cuticle oils like Solar Oil. I never buy the nail oil in the nail aisle :) there is a product made by "GENA" Cuticle Off and it really disolves cuticles on your nail. You can get this at Sally's.

Then to maintain the Cuticles, I use this: BIO-OIL with Purcellin Oil. You get in in the aisle where eczema, and other skin conditions ointments are sold. It is fabulous on cuticles (and other uses as well) and doesn't leave you greasy feeling.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies. I will check a couple of stores in my area if they carry the SolarOil, if not I may order on-line

Packrat: I have to try the sugar rub on my hands. They could use some exfoliation as well. Great tip!!

Arjunajane: I'll check into the vitamins. Anything that would help these nails would be great and even better if it helps my hair.

Amethyste, I have a Sally's card so next time I go there I will get the Gena- Cuticle Off. Also, I already have the BioOil. Never occurred to me to use it on my cuticles.

Amethyste, we will have to start paying you for all your great advice!
