I feel like I'm going a bit crazy looking at so many different photos and videos of ultra magnified diamonds and need some advice.

I ordered https://www.igi.org/reports/verify-your-report?r=lg539232740 for the center stone for the ring I'm designing over in this thread https://www.pricescope.com/communit...engagement-ring-designer.275690/#post-5183705. The table is a little small and it's a little deep for my liking, but the cut still falls within the excellent / ideal range so it should be ok. I also splurged a bit for a VVS2 and E color as looking close up at magnified videos I was shocked at how many more inclusions I could see in a VS1. I'm also a bit worried that the diamond may appear a bit small, but I don't really have much reference since my finger is quite a bit larger than my girlfriends.

Looking for any feedback on the diamond. Also what should I look out for when it arrives in 2 days? I was thinking of ordering a loupe. Wasn't sure if it was worth ordering an ASET scope, was just going to see how it sparkled in different light environments since then the scope results don't matter much.

Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately, this isn't a well cut stone. Can you still cancel the order?

We can help you search if you provide your budget. Also keep in mind that these videos are many times more close-up than you'll ever see your diamond with the naked eye. If you shrink the video to actual diamond size, you'll see how small the inclusions really are.

My budget is about $3200. This stone was $2600. I'm trying to understand how something that fits all the excellent / ideal cut classifications is a bad cut. What should I be looking out for? I was using https://www.diamondscreener.com/

Here is the vendor showcase video of the diamond:

I agree with Kim N...there are some areas of concern in the pavilion area that would want me to see it through an ASET scope to ensure that all is well with it.

Here's a pre-populated search:

So what exactly is the difference between these diamonds and the diamond I chose? Just trying to understand what I should look for when the diamond arrives before deciding to return it. Should I buy an ASET scope to take photos or is just insuring good sparkle in person good enough?

Yes, I highly encourage buying an ASET scope. If, like most people, you haven't seen a lot of diamonds of varying cut quality in person before, it would be difficult to know how much sparkle is good enough.

The diamond you chose (on the left below) shows signs of twisted pavilion in the green areas, which leads to leakage. The 2.50 I posted (on the right below) doesn't have those issues.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll look into purchasing a scope as well, is it preferable to get an ASET scope over an ideal scope given that I'm just looking at round diamonds and the ideal scope is a bit cheaper for something I'll probably only use once?

Lastly, I know the diamond is listed as VS1 but you can see vs the loupe provided of the diamond I selected there are many visible inclusions on the magnified view of that 2.62 carat diamond. You're saying that's something I just shouldn't worry about?

If you can swing it, then I would definitely advocate for the ASET scope...they work with any shape of diamond, and who knows what the future will bring to you!

No worries about the pinpoint inclusion(s) in the 2.62 - bear in mind that you are seeing it/them magnified at about 40-50x their actual size, so seeing them with the unaided eye will be a task that most will say is an impossibility, especially in real-world viewing conditions where all the light return, sparkle, and scintillation will completely drown them out.

I've gone ahead and swapped out my diamond for the 2.62 carat as suggested by Kim N. The vendors are on vacation so I won't know until November 15th what it looks like in person, but I think this was a great choice and appreciate all the help. Guess I should've checked here first, unfortunate to pick a bad diamond at first =)2

I feel that you've definitely made the right decision and I'm really looking forward to reading about your thoughts and impressions of it!

Wonderful, can't wait to hear what you think of it! And that's what we're here for--so glad I could help!

It arrived!

It's so unbelievably sparkly. I didn't pickup an ASET scope because I don't have time to replace this gem so I figured ignorance is bliss. I tried to find the laser inscription with a loupe but it's actually quite difficult to look at a diamond through a loupe due to the sheer amount of light return. I've also included a few photos which are a lot harder to take than I thought due to my iPhone not doing well with close ups. Thanks for the help everyone!
