What is one to look for when reviewing the numbers on a cert?

The diamond I have found has the following:

Crown angle: 35.5 (35.0 - 36.0)

All crown angles listed: 35.3, 35.9, 36.0, 35.6, 35.7, 35.1, 35.1, 35.0

Pavil angle: 40.6 (40.4 - 40.8)

It's an AGS Ideal with Ideal (0) Light Performance.

However,

The AGA Crown Angles are:

1A : 34.0 - 34.7
1B : 34.8 - 35.1
2A : 35.2 - 35.8
2B : 35.9 - 36.4

Nice Ice likes 34.3 - 34.8 Crown Angles

HCA ranks this diamond a 1.1 TIC with all Excellents based on the averages.

I understand a professional must look at the diamond but given these numbers, when should a customer walk away from a diamond and keep looking based on cert numbers?

Do these crown angles mean much if they fall in the 2B range vs 1A?

(This doesn''t answer your question, but it is just a comment.) You know what? All this information can quickly make one crazy, but I am thankful for all I have learned! Bottom line, I limited myself to looking at stones rated AGS0 or GIA Excellent and under 2 on the HCA. After that, it is pretty much nitpicking within the top 3% of diamonds. Even the experts on here have different preferences on the "perfect" measurements. Once you get into that category, you just have to see the stone to see if you love it. I had three ideal cuts brought in to one of the vendors, and they told me which one they felt was most visually pleasing. That is the one I have ordered to look at and I have 30 days to return it if it is not "the one". Bottom line is that most of us who are not professionals seeing multiple diamonds on a daily basis are going to think ALLl of the top 3% are gorgeous!

Well a table size would help along with these numbers. But I agree, it sounds like a really nice rock. HCA under 2, well worth taking a look. But again, this is a top performing rock, try to find a flaw and you will, but thats not really the point. The point is to find a great stone at a fair price, this is a great stone, by the numbers, if the price is fair what more do you want?

You''re right diamondseeker2006 - this can drive anybody crazy.

And you too are correct klavigne - if you keep looking you will find it. The table is 56%, depth 60.5%

That sounds awesome, the crown isn''t too high or too low, just right. It has good spread, bonus!!!
When it comes to the new AGS000 stones, they are all awesome by anyones standards. This Rock will be sweet, take a look at it in person and see if it "speaks" to you. Numbers on a cert are great to have, but it''s how the rock looks to you that will matter the most.
