Hi everyone,
I bought a 2.20ct diamond cross a couple of months back and although I love the cross I'm not wearing it. The chain that it came on catches on the cross and causes the cross to hang off-kilter. I've looked for other chains, but have no clue what sort of chain would work better. Also the cross tends to stick to my skin at odd angles too. I'm so upset that something I saved hard for is turning out to be such a disappointment. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix either one of these problems?
Thanks in advance,
Elizabeth :)

Do you have picture?
I would imagine a snake chain might help but I'd have to see what you mean.

Would you wear it on a silk rope??

Really, sounds like you have a chain issue. Take a picture.

I have a 1 carat diamond cross and I have the same problem. I don't know if it is the chain, because I have tried several, or if it is the size...for me at least, my diamond cross looks too huge for everyday wear, and the whole issue of how it hangs doesn't help. However, I still love mine and think it's beautiful. I tend to wear it with a very long necklace and just let it sort of lay low...

Hi everyone, thanks for reading and replying. I think the issue with the chain is that the channel through which the chain is threaded is not very smooth and that along with the links is what's causing it to continually snag.

I'm sorry it's not a very good picture.

I've tried a couple of chains too Nala, but haven't had any success. I was even thinking of having the cross made into a pin. I think I will try to find a snake-chain and see if that solves the problem.

nielseel, I hadn't thought about wearing it on a silk rope. I might do something like that for a very dressy occasion, but not for everyday wear. I'll try to find a nice silk-rope and see how that looks.

I agree on using a snake chain. They catch less than others. They're often a bit more expensive, but I put most of my necklaces on snake chains.

Adding a bale might help. The loop part in the back is shaped like a sideways U, right? That can tip the pendant sideways since it sticks the pendant forward on just one spot and make it tip around. Removing that hoop and adding a bale will shift the balance and help it face forward.

Thanks D :)

looks very beautiful (even blurry lol) so hopefully you can find a solution. I think you can though. dont give up hope just yet :wavey:

Thanks Kitty, that might be a better solution. :)

Thanks N, I'm awful at taking photos. Can't seem to keep my hand steady.

I think fortekitty may have nailed it with the suggestion for adding a bale at the to. I find that creates a better balance to my pendants and they do have better, as much as I prefer the hidden loop you currently have.

Did you try it with different chains yet? Did that have any effect?

My first thought was adding a bale as well. Beautiful necklace!

Another vote for a bail!

Enerchi, I did try other chains, but they all have links and get caught. The only one I haven't tried is the snake-chain.

Thanks Christina and Copper-Top. I also think that is the way to go. :)

Have you talked to the store where you bought it yet?

Hi denverappraiser, I haven't talked to them at length about this problem, though I did mention I was having a little trouble with the chain catching on the cross back when I first received it. They didn't really offer any advice as to what to do. (I got it from IDJ.) I think maybe I'll call them in the morning and see what they say about adding a bale. :)

Re: What to do? Update

I called IDJ and they advised I take it to a local jeweler and have them increase the opening in the back.

Re: What to do? Update

Today I found an 18ins Birdcage chain and it works perfectly. The cross slides unhindred and hangs beautifully. Thankfull I don't need to have the cross modified in any way.

Well that is a great update! I 'm glad you found something that works for you - without major modifications!

Excellent and the chain looks very elegant! So glad this problem is fixed and the cross is just beautiful BTW!

Thanks guys, I really love wearing it now. :appl:

Hi Pricescopers,

found this thread and thought I would update it. I never did wear the cross. No matter what chain was on there the cross continued to stick to my skin and sit at odd angles. So it's been sitting in the drawer all this time. Anyone have any ideas on what to do with the cross or diamonds? I emailed ID this morning to see if they could offer a trade of some sort, but they are out, on vacation?, right now. Any hoo, good to see you are all still here.
