What to do with original setting when resetting?

Hi All,

I am seriously considering resetting my ring...however, what happens to the original setting? I currently have a platinum Cushion flanked by two bullets... do jewelers ever buy the scrap? Can they consign the diamonds? I am getting quotes from VC, MH, SK, LM... do any of you have experience with these guys and what they are willing to do with the original setting. Might be a dumb question, but I thought I would ask...

I put a colored stone in my original setting and wear it as a right hand ring. it's too sentimental for me to sell or scrap, but that's me.

Athenaworth- that is actually a nice idea... I just thought I might be able to absorb some of the cost of the reset, buy I could do this as it might be the best value.

Reuse with another stone or sell the setting. Scrap will give you the lowest return, sometimes as low as 1/10th what you spent on the setting.

I LOVE the idea of putting a colored stone in there, but I don't think you'd have any problem selling it also!

Thank you all! I would love to put my Birthstone on it- it's a Diamond! Lol! I appreciate the advice... I wasn't sure what the protocol was doe something like this. I hadn't thought about selling it here? Totally something to consider too!
