I''m still unsure what to do in my independent appraisal Thursday. My insurance company will replace my ring with a ''similar item''. I have a 1.5ct ACA from Whiteflash. Should I bring to my appraiser all the paperwork I have from Whiteflash so they get included in my official appraisal? Paperwork such as AGS0 report, sarin, idealscope and aset. And should I bring in receipts for purchase price? I feel that this information would influence the appraisal, but ultimately I''m looking for an official document to give my insurance company so I get an accurate replacement if I lose my ring.

Do I bring the Whiteflash documents or just let the appraiser do her thing?

Great question, but consider making them relatively moot.

Get agreement first from insurer that they''ll accept and include the documents from the jeweler, regardless. If not, then having the appraiser include them is critical.

Then, before meeting with the appraiser, get agreement on what is desired, probably to include:

a) their unbiased assessment, prior to seeing any documents
b) inclusion (if necessary for insurer) of all documents in their appraisal
c) statement from appraiser on discrepancy, if any, with respect to their analysis, and what is presented on the documents.

Just seems sensible,

Yap, let the appraiser do his stuff first without the documents then go through the documents with him and question him on any discrepancy.

Take with you everything you’ve got and tell the appraiser you have them. Before showing them, discuss with her what you are hoping to gain from the appraisal assignment and she’ll design the session accordingly. A brief interview on your purpose(s) in seeking out the appraisal should be the start of every appraisal session so it's highly likely she'll be asking this question. For insurance replacement purposes these are definitely critical documents. The replacement would not be of ‘like kind and quality’ if the replacement stone were not AGSL graded would it? That report is your proof of AGSL pedigree as well as evidence that you have a genuine AGA stone. Perhaps a knockoff will be acceptable to you and perhaps not but it should be YOUR call, not the insurers. The report you submit to the insurance company at the time of binding will become the purchase order used for the replacement and it should include everything that you count as valuable about the stone and that you would like to have included as one of the specs for the replacement.
