Hi, A good friend of mine is looking to buy a pear diamond about 1.2-1.5 carats. What constitutes a good pear? She was thinking she could go down to SI1- G/H color but I am clueless about depth and table etc... Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Oh, rats! I thought when I saw your thread title that I was going to be able to help you find a pear! haha! I think pears are like all fancy shapes in that you have to see pictures to know if you are getting a good one, and in order to do that, you need to see pictures of examples of excellent ones! Plus, she should order an ASET scope and then be able to tell about light performance if one is available for her to see.

Here is the information on pears from this site:

maybe we can help her look?

Pears are tough! To me you sort of have to work a little backwards. You go find a beautiful pear (great shape, great faceting
pattern, minimal bow-tie, no shoulders, ratio that you like, beautiful sparkle, etc.) in the size range that you want then you
decide if the color and clarity that the pear has is something that you can live with. Its not exactly that cut and dry but they
are not like rounds where you can just go order an AGS 000 1.3 G VS1 and come pretty close to what you are looking for.

If she wants a fairly white stone I would probably stick with G on up (to D). Pears tend to show color in their point. Clarity...
as long as you cant see anything then thats good with me. Sometimes you can see something with an SI1 sometimes you cant
see anything with an SI2.

Here is a fun tool...
