What solitare shape do you think looks best on a very thin, plain band?

All I know for sure is that I want a very thin white gold or platinum band (for e-ring and wedding ring). I''m debating between round, radiant, princess, or asscher, although I''m definitely willing to entertain other fancies. The center stone would be about 1-1.5 carats (and hopefully excellent clarity and color). I''d love to see pics of rings that fall into this category! Thanks!

Have you tried on various shapes in that size? I think some of it depends on what looks best on you and what calls your name. For example, while my original e-ring was marquise (the fad at the time) I never cared for it and it didn't look the best on me. I think a RB probably looks good on anyone. A marquise would be good on someone with long fingers etc... I found that once I went into a store the salespeople helped me look at different stones and were actually helpful in picking a style and shape.

Here''s a pic of my original wedding set. I had a 1.2 carat round..both bands were very thin...

I can''t imagine anything would look bad. Id say my choices would be round, pear or emerald cut.

I agree with WTNLVR, any shape stone will look great in a thin setting but which shape do you like? I think all the shapes have they pros and cons but e-cuts made my heart stop, hence the reason I have an e-cut. Just go try on the shapes at your local b & m so you can get an idea about which one is right for you.

I think round always looks elegant on a thin band. It''s a classic!

I agree with the responses so far: Probably any shape stone will look great in a thin setting, and the best bet is to try them on to see how they look on your hand. But since you are looking for opinions, if it were me, I''d probably go with one of the fancier shapes [maybe an oval? princess? I''d have to try them on too! :) ], since you have a simple setting. (Although the flipside of that is if you ever want to change the settings down the road, RB might be most versatile, and like the person before me said, it''s a classic.) I have a RB, and if I''d known I''d end up with a thin solitaire setting (ER but not WB) - which was NOT my original intention or desire - I think I would have gone with a more unique shape, although I do love the brilliance of my diamond. But again it all boils down to a person''s style, because RB solitaire with plain WB is a timeless classic, like the one posted above.

I was torn between a RB & Princess. Until I went into a B&M and actually tried them on. That did it for me- I''m a Princess gal!

Bottom line, (and to echo what everyone else is saying)- you won''t know until you go see them in person. One will certainly "call" out to you!

I am a round loving girl but I have seen some amazing princess stones on a thin solitaire...it makes the stone look very big. But be sure to get a fabulously cut princess with excellent light return edge to edge!! I''d say round or princess depending on what you love!

I like round best on a thin band. It just looks so classic!! I never imagined I would say that I prefer rounds to anything because I used to think they were boring, but dammit, the sparkle of a round gets me every time! *sigh*

My sister has a pear on a plain band and i absolutely love it!!

A beautiful Round will give you the most sparkle for the size. GO ROUND!

I have a round on a thin solitaire and while I like it I think I will eventually get a setting with side stones.

I agree with Mara - there is something about a princess solitaire that is gorgeous. One of my friends has a 2ct princess on a tiffany type setting and it just wows you! There are lots of examples of that in the SMTR folder.

It''s good to see some princess lovers around here now!
I think any stone looks good on a thin band...I do love the thin bad, it''s my favorite look really...When I upgrade (when I''m like 90) I"m going to set the sides as earrings and just have it set on a super thin plain band! I say go with whatever shape strikes your fancy!

Good Luck!

Angel7 that''s a great illustration you posted!! It is different when you try things on though. I go along with the suggestion to do just that! Local b&m stores don''t usually carry Asschers though. You might want to phone around 1st or take a trip to the NY diamond district. (I did - very helpful)

Pics are always helpful!!

Mara - I am getting off the floor now drooling at your avator. It is beautiful! Is that your own ring?

A thin band... call that 'diamond shape showcase' - it would just make the shape of the stone stand out whatever that is.

This one is just meant to look naughtly (altough it is a cut rarely mentioned here anyway). Thin band... wide band

Does it matter ? These two are just out of this world, IMO.

It is a large old mine cut... oval. There aren''t many around.

I personally love a good old round diamound - sizewise and "sparklewise" its a good choice. In saying that, I''m partial to a nice asscher- you can stare into those things forever and they are very chic.

What size ring do you wear? How are your fingers shapped?

Personally I love RB...I had a nice princess from my SO before set in a thin WG band...it looks nice (about 5.5x5.5) on my size 6 hand...but it never moved me.
I would hit the mall and just look at how the shapes suit you, size and sparkle I would not consider since you never know what sort of cut you are getting (or color or clarity with IGI and EGL) so it is harder to determine. HTH.
