What should I look for...engagment ring?

I want a ring that people compliment her on, sparkles in all light and makes her friends jealous.

She sent me some ideas(pictures) and they are three stone settings, I want around a caret in the middle and either diamonds or blue sapphires on the sides. From what I read on here cut is pretty important, what do you think I should aim for in regards to all of the C''s? I was thinking around H color with a VI or something? I would like to spend around $4-5K on the diamond and around $1k on the setting.

I aimed for G-I color, SI1 clarity, Excellent cut. Size is tricky. I found people started commenting on "What a Rock" I had when I went over 1ct. I had a 1.23ct that looked huge to most observers. 1ct seems to be the average size I've seen on Polls, so to get the jealous factor going, maybe go up a little past that. Throw in a High End cut and that would do it among my friends. With the budget you mentioned, it might be hard to do a 3 stone setting. Maybe you could just do 1 big stone with some smaller pave or shared prong .03 stones on the band for extra bling. See what size her social circle are wearing. (Friends, sisters, co-workers).

I agree. If your total budget is $6000, I''d go for a nice 1 ct. H SI1 solitaire. She can upgrade the setting later on.

Oh, forgot to mention she wants either princess or emerald cut. She also send me pictures of what she likes(I asked a while ago) and they all were three stone settings so I think I should stick with that.

You mentioned she wanted a 3-stone ring. Did she specifically say she would like sapphires? I know my fiance had mentioned them to me, and I was sooo glad he did, because I wanted a DIAMOND ONLY ring and sapphires would have ruined the look for me. I would check with her before inserting stones other than diamonds. You''d be better off with one large diamond instead of one diamond and two stones she doesn''t love. If she wants sapphires, then I think the ring you show here is great!

You can not go wrong with either a center stone from Excel or WF. Start off with them and just remember that Cut is the most important of all the C''s
