What should I do with this unwearable band?

So, I have an eternity band that is a bit of a lemon. I have had diamonds fall out twice and had it repaired twice. The first time I wore it after the second repair, another diamond fell out. I refuse to send it in for another repair, so I am wondering if I should just sell it to someone looking for some high quality melee diamonds or have it remade into a channel set band. My funds are very limited, but I would take any recommendations for someone who could make a nice band for me. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Do you have any pictures to post? That would make it easer to respond with specifics. Sorry for your troubles with the ring!

I guess that would help. The diamonds are bezel set and there are 20 out of 21 left. The band is 2 mm wide, and apparently quite fragile. The ring is a size 8.789257

It's easy to just get in deeper when trying to salvage something. Having custom jewelry made is expensive. You might be better off to just accept the loss, sell that ring for scrap value or whatever, then start over and buy a ready made band that you like.

+1
Sorry. :(sad

Well, saying funds are limited could be different for everyone so it's hard to give advice. I would at least contact someone like David Klass and get a quote for having a ring made with your stones. If that isn't within budget, then yes, I'd try to sell it but I doubt you'll get enough to buy another diamond band. So again, maybe get the quote and try to save up a bit if you need more funds and do something with the stones you have.

Oh what a shame
Its very pretty on your finger

Thank you! I love this style of ring so I am bummed that it keeps losing diamonds.

I would like to stay under $1000 if possible, as that is the cost of just buying a new channel set band.

Are they nice diamonds worth keeping ?
I like the idea of a scatter ring or even a silver bangle with the diamonds scattered around

They are ideal cut melee, FG color, but very small. I have also thought about a “zig-zag” or scatter band or going in a completely different directions and having a pendant made.

Then I think if you need a pendent or a scatter/ zig zac band in your jewel box go for it !

It's not easy for diamonds to fall out of bezel settings, as opposed to prong settings. Either its a poorly made band or something about how the band is being worn. Since these are high quality stones, I would definitely check with David Klass for pricing to reset into a new bezel setting. It might be worth the cost (depending on you of course) to have a bezel set band that works for you. It goes beautifully with your ering. I would be loathe to let it go.

I agree with you, I really love the look. The diamonds have fallen out just from wearing it out to dinner. I have only worn it about 10 times since I purchased it as I was too afraid to wear after the first repair.

Will you say who made the original band?

Id think you could get it remade via someone like DKJ within your budget. But whether it’s ‘worth it’ to have the stones recovered and reused -IMO- depends on your individual sentimentality, or the cost of the initial ring (with the stated quality of the stones) along with info of what DKJ would charge to source compatible stones to start new.

It is the Whiteflash Danielle Jazz band. They repaired it for me twice, and I have let them know that a diamond has fallen out again. I am just tired of sending it back and forth and being afraid to wear the ring.

Surely a full re-make by Whiteflash is warranted given this is the third issue.

I wouldn’t be on board for another fix, either.
Depending on how long ago the initial purchase was - I’d still be contacting them back asking for options available.

I purchased it in November 2019.

I would move on with a different ring. Yes I would reuse the stones.

Don’t know if I would ask original vendor if they would reuse the stones or not for a new ring?

I think you could have DKJ make a band with your stones within your budget. I'm still suggesting that you get a quote, so long as you know how you want the stones set.

Fully agree with this. Maybe this piece is a lemon. I would not give up with WF. Since you barely wore it, it must be an issue with the ring. Don’t give up! Crossing fingers WF can help.

Whiteflash will only fix it if I pay, so that is out. They insist that there is nothing wrong with the ring because I didn’t have any problems the fist year (I only wore it about 5 times as I wear my plain wedding band 99.9% of the time) and no one else seems to have any trouble with this ring. I am off to find DKJ’s contact info…

Pretty band, I always love that look! Surprised that stones would fall out so easily from bezel settings, I thought they were supposed to be the most secure. It’s possible DK could fix it so it wouldn’t keep happening, if you wanted him to check that before deciding on a new style. What a bummer to get that response from the vendor.

Just my opinion here
I would be hesitant to ask DKJ to rework/fix a ring that has issues like OP has had, in the scenario they have stated.
Paying DKJ full labor rates to work on a ring with issues of unknown causes and limits - that I’m sure DKJ would want to feel confident in their workmanship guarantee. I cannot see that as doable.
Plus have it look like the ring is supposed to look like.
This scenario of paying a third party vendor to fix, doesn’t give me warm fuzzies.

Workmanship guarantee is too strong of a word. Can’t think of a better term right now tho.

It sux the ring has only been worn 5 times
How often does this happen with warranties when an item isnt used much and then craps out just out of warranty

I know here in NZ we have the consumer guarantee act that covers an item in some situations like this - where it is just out of warranty or has failed in regard to reasonable expectations of wear

It happened to our fridge and we got a replacement new one without having to kick up a stink or anything

Agree. Pay him to make a whole new setting with these stones.

In WF's defense it's been three years. They can't afford to take clients at their word regarding frequency of wear over this sort of timeline because for every client like OP, who's telling the truth, there are ten who are lying through their teeth and thumbs ;(

OP I'm sorry!! That's so disappointing. Sure sounds like a bit of a lemon. But I'm confident there's lemonade to be had from this! Let me ask three more questions:
1. What metal is this band made out of?
2. How long after purchase did you send it back for first repair? And how long after first repair did it need second repair?
3. Is it the same stone that's falling out? Or is it losing stones from different parts of the band?

1. It is 14k gold, and it is the diamonds at the ends of the row, ie the ones that sit between my fingers when I am wearing it.

2. I purchased it in November 2019, the first repair was done in October 2020, the second one in August 2021. I can’t remember if it was one or two diamonds the first time, but four diamonds fell out the second time it needed repair. As I said, I almost never wore the ring, especially after the second repair and sure enough a diamond fell out the first time I dared to wear it again.

I am just done with it and I wasn’t really expecting much as Whiteflash was very reluctant to offer the second repair free of charge.
