get the ring. that's what he was saving the money for. to me it's like someone buying you a birthday present and you asking if you could have the money instead.

then save your own money to pay off your student loan. don't really understand why you would use your husband's hard saved money to pay a loan you took out... but then again I also don't have the history of your relationship so I'm just basing this on the way my financial relationship is set up.


oh... just thought of something clever which you probably won't like:

tell him to save the money for the ring (and not spend it on anything else). WHEN you've saved enough and paid off your student loan, then let him buy you the ring. that way you don't have to regret either choice and you get a reward for paying off your loan AND your husband gets to buy you the ring.

I understand now that my eyes are open as to what you mean. I didn''t even realize what I was doing and now I feel horrible. I''m gonna have a talk with him and decide together which means, I''m getting the ring. I''ve been paying my student loan off with OUR money because what''s his is mine and what''s mine is his. Thank you for your opinion...
