So, my very-soon-to-be husband is wanting to get me a wedding gift. He actually suggested the following (as they were all things I mentioned wanting over the past few months)

1) Tiffany Platinum Diamond Cross

2) Changing my ring setting to baguettes instead (Tiffany would charge $4400) to make it appear a bit more streamlined (not sure how I still feel about the different facets together currently, and have always been a fan of emerald cuts with baguettes ala Diamondfan). I figure I can sell the old one after to recoup a bit of the money...

3) Watch (although I have a somewhat new Longines Dolce Vita) perhaps with diamonds

What are your opinions? I value them!!!!!

I forgot to add, could you briefly explain which you picked and why? :)

I picked the cross, because

a.) You said you have a fairly new watch

and

b.) You are not totally certain whether you want to change your setting, and that you should be certain of, and should take time getting there

I picked the cross as well...

Because you kind of position the ring upgrade and watch as secondary request the way you explained them.

I say the cross because that is the one thing you are certain about. Congrats!

I voted for the watch 'cause you can never have too many beautiful watches, however, my friend who is Vietnamese and superstitious, once told me it was bad luck to get a watch from your sweetheart as it meant that your love had a time frame or some sort of mumbo jumbo, so maybe the cross is your best bet.

Your setting is pure poetry and perfection so I vote that you just leave that beauty alone. No touchie

I voted for the cross.

You say you already have a lovely, and quite new watch and you didn''t seem 100% certain about changing your engagement ring.

Plus, a lovely new cross would be something unique and special that you would treasure for always.. and that''s why it got my vote!

I voted for the cross for the same reasons as above

You aren''t 100% certain you want to change your setting
and you already have a newish watch

Then you get something different and unique, and you know you want!

Ok, these both made me laugh!

And I just have to say pix, your little girl is absolutely adorable. Lucky you!

Thank you all so far for the honest opinions!

I wish I could get all three, and keep my old setting (to switch in and our depending on moods

I would say cross. My last choice would be changing your setting. I would not do that.

I voted for the Cross.

Ditto, I love your ring. I think a cross would be beautiful

I say the cross..... you had hesitation on the other 2, and that was what I got for my wedding gift, so I am sort of partial to it

Ditto!

I also voted for the cross.

I chose the cross...
1) I think that the cross would be such a nice wedding gift from your new husband, very meaningful!
2) You already have a fairly new watch.
3) Your e-ring is beautiful the way it is...why fix it if it ain''t broke?!

I think it is going to be the cross. Will make a nice gift, I think :) Not sure if I will wear it everyday, but would be fun to break out on certain days where I need extra bling.

I do like baguettes, but am only afraid my center stone would look smaller (and then, of course, there is the price to change it). The watch would be nice (like the Tiffany one with diamonds) but I just know I wouldn''t wear it, as I have a nice one already...

Awww, thanks Ellen. She is a total cutie pot pie.

And BTW, that crazy mumbo jumbo cost me a Tank Francaise. I actually let her dissuade me from letting my BF (now my DH) give me a one for my b-day. Fooey.

UCLA - the lesson here is, don''t let anyone talk you out of getting exactly what YOU want.

I would say the cross because it will be an heirloom. A watch that would have heirloom potential would be a LOT more expensive than that cross! If you are having a church wedding, I also think the cross will have special meaning related to your marriage.

And your ring is beautiful as it is!!! Put $4000 toward a second ring (eventually), not on changing that one!

I am going to vote for the watch because a good watch has so much to offer in terms of style. Get a watch that wont date like a Cartier or a Rolex. The designs are timeless and even in ten years you can still wear these time pieces without them looking dated. And the designs are so beautiful as is the finish and overall feel. Of course its much more doable is you dont mind stainless steel!!!! I just bought my first C. in ss and Im surprised at how much I really, really love and admire it! I got the roadster, and got 30% off rrp. I sometimes just wear my watch and no other jewellery, and it can hold the fort!!!!
