My friend is trying to find an emerald diamond between 2.5-3 carats (to replace his FI''s lost engagement ring
39.gif
- it was an heirloom diamond) and he''s working with a vendor halfway across the country that his insurance recommended. The vendor originally just sent the stats on a diamond. When he pressed for pictures, they sent two pics of the ring in a setting, at something of an angle. He asked me what I thought, and I responded that a good vendor would send straight-on diamond pics, particularly with a step cut where pictures really matter. There are also no ASET images or anything like I so often see posted on PS. They want him to send a cashiers check, so no CC protection.

Should I be worried for him? Should I push harder for him to get more pictures? My suggestion he look around more fell on deaf ears, but I''ll try one more time if you think the way the jeweler is acting is fishy.

Thanks for your input!

Sounds like the jeweler is hiding the ball and trying to make the sale. Your friend needs to ask for images, especially a straight-on photo. Is the diamond certified?

If, after specific requests for info, the jeweler doesn't send any other pictures, I would tell your friend to look around more. With a huge expensive purchase like that, you (or he rather) shouldn't be taking chances if he's not fully comfortable with the seller.

Well, he went ahead and ordered it without more pictures...and he never checked the return policy.

I hope beyond hope I have no reason to think (I''m too kind to say) "I told you so!"
