I like several shapes, mainly round, marquise and emerald. So, a couple of years from now (and a couple of work bonuses later) I can definitely see myself adding another shape to my collection...

Haha, my SO was thought the same way on stepcuts when we first looked at diamonds years ago - he thought that they didnt sparkle like a diamond should. He likes them now though, though that could have been out of necessity/nagging rather than preference i voted for an EC as i have bought one, i just havent been given it yet fingers crossed i get it soon, i think i will

Yes, according to FI sparkle is very, very important. Who am I to tell him otherwise when it led us to picking an amazingly cut and therefore performing diamond?

But, one day... I mean, surely there's space enough on my right ring finger for some more bling!

I currently own a .80 carat round in a bead set cathedral setting and I do like it. But when the day comes to upgrade, I'm getting either an emerald but or a princess cut (and keeping the setting).

I would only like an RB or marquise for an e-ring, I like other shapes for other things.

I think availability is an issue. Most B & M have mostly rounds. Buying online there are other choices but its hard to figure out if they will be nice. How many times has someone come on Pricescope wanting a fancy shape and been told that it is much less easy to find nice fancies. I think many then give up. Second hand market is definitely almost 100% rounds.
