Hi, im a newbie here in PS... i would like to know if you guys could help me out find a right setting for a half carat that will last long. Thank you so much.

What kind of setting are you looking for?

I always like a well done bezel which will last quite a long time, low maintenance. Anything that has prongs, you''d have to have regular maintenance check ups. Diamonds on the shanks with prongs, a little more maitenance upkeep. No diamonds on the shank means less maintenance as well. Depends on what you mean by durability. Platinum head will be more durable in a prong open setting than white gold, a jeweler once told me.

we need more information please. like above posted what kind of setting are you looking for? why do you think it needs to be especially durable? most rings are pretty durable and are worn everyday.

first of all, thank you for all your replies. i really appreciate it.

well anyways, last week i started checking out just the six prong tiffany from WF. Then i started looking at some feedback about Legato Sleek Line here in PS and i agree, it is a beauty. especially when one of WF''s consultant showed me the Legato with diamonds on the shank with the .55 carat diamond as the center piece. But then i began thinking if these following choices are strong enough to hold the diamond and can take any beating since my gf like to do chores, etc... im just concern that she might accidentally hit it against the wall or something. what would think?

by the way here is the diamond i am thinking to buy: http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-2119069.htm

thanks again for the replies.

Tell your gf she should take off a diamond ring to do her chores, cleaning, the gym, gardening etc -
it''s just not worth the risk of damaging your ring or diamond. Not to mention it will stay a lot cleaner, and diamonds look their best when they''re clean.

I have the Legato sleek lines without the pave, and I would say it is very "strong" - I''ve had it so far for about a year, and have not had to have the prongs tightened or any other kind of maintenance.

thats good to hear! i really like that setting and i think it would look good on my gf. is your setting a platinum or white gold? what is your opinion on the .55 carat diamond that i want to buy?

Hi Legato, sorry I just saw your questions..
I actually have mine with a yellow gold shank and white gold head/prongs as I''m a YG lover.
If you''re concerned about durability and wear and tear, may I suggest white gold for your GF - plat has properties that make it a bit more susceptible to getting "dings" etc, and develops a "patina" (just do a search here on plat and patina if you''re curious, plenty of threads).

here is my thread with plenty of pics if you''re interested, mine has a 1.25ct diamond, but I think a half ct would look equally lovely! I gave my opinion on the specific diamond in your other thread
