What setting will make a 0.5 to 0.6 Cart round look bigger?

Hi Guys,

My mom and I are planning to buy a diamond ring for my youngest aunt. We can only afford 0.5 to 0.60 3EX round brilliant (thinking D-G color, VS - SI) for her..

Since it's not an engagement ring, I don't want to add side stones on the band plus it doesn't match her with girly design.

Can anybody able to suggest a few setting that would raise the diamond but not over done. She lives a very simple, low profile life style.

A bezel

Did you happen to see the pics of the solitaire, right hand ring that poppins posted yesterday on the Show Me The Bling board; I think this kind of pinched shoulder mounting (where the band tapers in to the solitaire) is especially flattering to smaller stones:

Great suggestions below. Be sure to go with a thinner band which has a higher setting for the center stone, as proportions make a big difference. A halo setting would be a great way to make the stone look bigger, but I'm not sure if OP meant "no additional diamonds" or just "no additional diamonds on the band." I'd take a look at WF.

I'd do this sholdt setting. I'm my mind it almost looks like the diamond is a button .

Anyways its a bezel, and the design doesn't look engagement, and I think the size you're look at would fit this design well, not look too small. Brian Gavin has more photos of this design, but they don't pull up right on my phone

I like Niel's suggestion because it doesn't look like an "engagement ring."

I wasn't able to quickly find that particular Sholdt mounting on Brian Gavin's web site, but here's the portal page for all the Sholdt mountings BG is currently showing:
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/designer/sholdt/
and the Show Us Your Bezel Rings pages here on PS starts here:

Another knot possibility that might appeal?

Or one with a band based on tree bark or a twig? There are a fair number of etsy vendors who do variations on this theme (I have a similar ring, with a peach tourmaline stone) :

YIKES, that pic is huge, my apologies

A bezel is a good way to make a stone look larger.

How about something like sapphire side stones? A solitaire round diamond is going to look like an engagement ring.

Well, although one PS'er in this thread opined it's "appropriate" to wear a diamond solitaire, on either hand, only if you are engaged/married or seeking to portray that status, not everyone has reservations about sporting a sparkly solitaire that's not serving as an e-ring or deems that taboo/undesirable:

(There are a heckuva lot of non-solitaire, and colored gem, engagement rings nowadays of the ilk that once were denominated as dinner or cocktail rings. Yet no one here on PS, at least as far as I can remember, has ever suggested those shouldn't be worn as e-rings, lest some stranger think you are not engaged.)

But before we throw any more suggestions at you, gpiglet, it would be good to know the budget for this sweet gift; pics or descriptions of the kind of rings she's now wearing would also be great. :))

What is you setting budget? does she like Art Deco? I love vintage setting because they make me think of family and heirlooms (which is sounds like you are creating) and a lot of the settings make the center stone look bigger. Otherwise I agree with the others that a bezel would be best.

Thank you for all the great suggestions!!!!

All the tips are very helpful. I don't think she will like halo because she lives a very low profile life, casual wear for the most part and very active.

I think with her style, anything that has a sleek design would be great... She lives in Hong Kong, it's a very crowd City, so on one hand, I also want a secured setting.

Bezel setting may be a great choice for her, would it reduce the spark from the diamond? While we cannot afford to buy her a big diamond ring, we want to make sure it shine ...

Some years back I had a WhiteFlash 0.61ct E-SI1 ACA in this half-bezel setting - http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/true-love-diamond-engagement-ring-510.htm - it was gorgeous, sleek and sparkly - low maintenance, easy to clean, and such a pretty, open profile view. (I later traded in this diamond and setting for a larger diamond from WhiteFlash, in a different setting, and it is one of my very few regrets as I still miss this .61ct diamond/setting combo)

WhiteFlash also has this full bezel setting - http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/cameron-solitaire-engagement-ring-585.htm - and this curvy wrap/bezel setting - http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/iris-solitaire-engagement-ring-1632.htm
