I would like...
1.) a big blingy eternity band
2.) two thin/string eternity bands to wear as alternates
3.) big stud earrings (1.5-2 carats each)

I am fairly certain that I would be content of the rest of my life with these items :D

Essential?

Earrings, watch, relationship status ring(s?) as appropriate.

I do love necklaces too though!

What I expect people to wear? Or what I think I should wear?

Watch. Does not have to be expensive.
Wedding ring. If they're married. Men and women both.
Earrings, perhaps . . . on a woman. Men look so very 1985 with one ear, and way too 'alternative rock band' with both ears.

Anything else is a daily style choice to perk up or add the right touch to what we're wearing.

A watch and wedding ring. Although I wish we could wear jewelry as much as women or as much as men in Tudor England. For one thing I'd like a long chain. :cheeky:

lmdanny, those two are my essentials, too. Only I'm a woman.
In my single days my only essential was a watch. Now it's watch and plain wedding band. I'd feel something seriously missing if I left home without them. I always joke the best part of being married is never having to be naked again -- I'll always be wearing the wedding band!

Beyond that: a string of pearls, pearl studs and a single pearl ring are my way to dress anything up. Have never worn them all at the same time, yet.

I think what I have now are *my* essentials (+ a bit more, lol):

- 3 diamond erings (RB, pear, 3-stone)
- 2 diamond RHRs (coloured diamond, 5-stone band)
- diamond solitaire studs
- diamond cluster earrings
- diamond pendant
- diamond bracelet
- 3 diamond eternity rings
- SS + Tahitian pearl necklaces and pearl drops
- high-end watch

Ha ha, it's fun to see this thread revived!

My "essentials" these days are much simpler; these are my "go-to's" now:

- ering (most of the time my 2.656ct BGD VC ring, otherwise the pear)
- BGD studs (4.6ctw)
- IDJ 7.4ctw tennis bracelet
- 25pt eternity ring, worn as a RHR
- PP Nautilus watch

That's it, folks.

My essentials these days are even fewer than they used to be. Just my OEC ER and 2 thin antique WBs on my left hand and earrings. That's it. No watch, no bracelet, no necklace no other bling at all.

Fun thread.

Since the title says "essentials" I am going to keep it short.

- Diamond studs
- Diamond pendant, probably solitaire to match studs

I mean, is there a woman on this earth who doesn't look good in diamond studs and matching pendant?

- a really long necklace that can double as a belt. I love the ones I've been seeing recently of diamond briolettes pierced on both ends and strung on platinum wire. (BTW, is there a special name for this? Hunting them down is like looking for hen's teeth.)

I would call these satoirs, but I also see the term being used for shorter necklaces as well.

And I protest the idea of diamond studs as being only for married women.

My list would include:
- Everyday earrings (my choice would be small studs)
- Everyday necklace (versatile pearl strand, coloured stone pendant, metal work or whatever)
- Everyday right hand ring (I would choose a great coloured stone)
- Fancy earrings or fancy necklace or cocktail ring (ideally, all of them but at least one to dress up outfits)
- Wedding set, if applicable
- One great statement piece (a bracelet, necklace, earrings, whatever floats your boat and helps you face a tough day)

Lady Disdain, agreed (on all counts, frankly!), but I meant the stones. Being pierced at both ends and more ... almond shaped than tear-drop shaped, for lack of a better term, it's clear that they're not briolettes, but I've yet to hear a specialized term for them. Drives me nuts when that happens!

P.S. - I think my post in this thread was years ago, and I *still* haven't heard anyone cal them anything specific. Grrrr!

It's so fun to come back to this question after a couple years of projects. So I think I do have all the essentials b/c I don't have any major projects going on or anything I am obsessing over.

I wear these every day. I don't take them off, not even when I sleep, only while working out.
Ering. After Victor Canera reset it, I don't even wear the band much, just the ering.
Diamond studs. I never take them off, only to clean.
Diamond tennis bracelet.

Nice to have:
Necklace, preferably Cartier.
Stacking bracelet, Cartier
Juste un clou

Have but no longer essential
RHR colored stone - never wear it
Random eternity bands
Wedding band. Good for traveling.
Watch - hardly wear it. Use cell.
Little tiny necklace, fun and easy.

Plain/engraved band
Ering
Diamond studs (if ears pierced)
Everyday necklace (prefer small diamond pendant)

If budget permits, some colored stone jewelry for RHRs and pendants, earrings, etc.

1. Studs
2. A ring (wedding band and e-ring for us boring married peeps)
3. A classic watch
4. A simple necklace...or cross...or other religious necklace

See, I wear my watch every day. I feel weird without it.

I also wear earrings everyday. I feel naked without them. Also something on my left hand wedding finger. I forgot to put my rings on a few weeks ago before leaving the house and felt strange all day. Like off kilter. It wasn't just the decorative aspect, I felt like a part of me was missing. That makes things essential to me.

I don't wear necklaces very often - I think they are more decorative than essential to me. And they tend to be more blingy on me anyway. I either wear nice chunky pearls or semi precious gems or delicate chains, but they are more decorative... Hard to explain. Plus I got out of the habit of wearing necklaces when I had my daughter.

Anyway, to me, the only essentials are

Wedding ring/engagement ring
Watch
Earrings (I usually favour studs).

Not sure any of it is really essential, but my everyday wear is:

Diamond studs or gold hoops
Diamond tennis bracelet- never comes off except for cleaning
Gold bangle
Diamond solitaire pendant
Left hand ring- varies from day to day, but always have a ring on left hand

Never wear a watch- use my phone for this function

As to essential jewelry wardrobe items, I would add a simple pearl necklace and pearl studs to the list.

My answers change over time depending upon what's going on in my life...after working over the last nine months at a place where toning down my bling look has been important, I would have to for sure say diamond studs are essential! I say that because I have worn my earrings every day at work all these months when I've had to leave almost everything else at home. The other essential for me has been a fun diamond pendent that doesn't look OTT.

But, on non-work days, I extend that to a nice diamond ring and bigger blingy pendant.

I don't have one now, but think a nice diamond bracelet could be an essential.

For work/travel:
Studs or huggies (like the baby hoops from Elizabeth Locke, on my wish list)
18" necklace, either good pearls, a polished stone torsade, or faceted pendant on chain
Substantial ring or impressive stackers, as you prefer

For home/weekend:
Sentimental necklace (for me, it would be an antique gold locket, but I don't have it yet)
Rings you love looking at
Earrings you could fall asleep in!

That's the essentials, IMO. But no one can ever have too much jewellery!
