I''ve read numerous posts regarding appraisals and I''m still not sure what I should do. We''re getting the stone from GOG and they give all the wonderful reports with the purchase (which I understand are enough for the insurance). So what is there really to gain from getting it appraised? I know the appraiser will basically verify that the info from GOG is accurate. I am wondering what the other benefits are, how much it costs approximately, and what is the best way to proceed? I''m also curious on insuring the ring?? Our homeowners policy is with Statefarm, are they reputable or is there another recommended company we should touch base with? The value is under $10,000.

Any input and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated...

Hi dani, you can type in insurance and read a whole bunch of threads. Honestly, with the type of info GOG provides I think your homeowners would have a tough time replacing with like kind which is what most of them state they will do. Just provide every detail on your stone possible, the sarin, the idealscope image, everything and make sure you add it to your homeowners as a seperate rider. Laney had insurance with her homeowners and her stone was from GOG. her homeowner''s couldn''t come up with anything similar or remotely close when she had a claim and they cashed her out. You need to read your policy closely though. If that makes you worried you can always look into purchasing a stand alone policy like Chubb that will give you a check for the appraisal amount that you insure. As for having another appraisal done, some do and some don''t. It''s up to what you are comfortable with but what GOG will provide is more than sufficient for your ins. company.
