First of all, thanks to everyone on here for your invaluable knowledge, expertise and willingness to help. It''s been wonderfully helpful so far. Of course, i now have more questions
2.gif

i just purchased this stone from a friend of a friend in the diamond district in NYC. It''s cert number is: 22037208D I am trying to find out what EGL lab this cert came from. The diamond is an I color and SI3. The cut is ideal and so it looks gorgeous, but from what i''ve read regarding variances in EGL lab gradings, I''d like to know if this is from the NYC lab or Israel lab.

If it''s from israel, i will have serious questions regarding it''s rating accuracy. I don''t want a J-K/I1-I2 stone and I definitely want to know that I did not get taken advantage of. I am also going to take the stone to an appraiser as I have a 30 day guarantee that if it doesn''t appraise for at least what i paid for it ($7,850) i can take it back.

Also, what does the UGS Appraisal Value mean on an EGL cert? Who in the world appraised that and how much "water does it hold"?

Thanks for helping out the new guy. I appreciate everyone''s knowledge and expertise.

Also, would anyone be willing to post a theoretical firescope image of this stone given the posted measurements? That'd be very helpful as well. Thanks!

It's EGL NY.

You would not have had any trouble with I SI3 because you could easily see the inclusion if it were wrongly graded and the colour too would appear yellowish.
EGL uSA is a a good mob

Their stones are often better value than the more favoured labs

Nice proportions - less than 1 on HCA

Thanks! It's great to have much more experienced people provide info

Thanks for the firescope image - it looks like there's a little leakage around the edge and some in the middle. however i assume it is still a fairly good firescope image?

and can anyone help me on that UGS Appraisal Value of $15,840? There's no way that can be accurate or even close. . .

No, you will be wasting your money if you insure for that amount. My EGL appraisal w/ nearly twice what I paid as well. It's just to make you feel goo.

so true - i figured it was way off the mark.

does anyone have any comments (good and bad) on my ideal-scope image? i know white is bad but that's about it. . . still a real newb to all of this
rolleyes.gif
i tried comparing them to images at ideal-scope.com but can't really make a good comparison. is my image a reject? is it an excellent cut, medium cut or poor cut according to the ideal-scope standards?

Sweet bluff stone

. The appraisal is overly inflated, as fire&ice has noted.

it is in the top 5 or 10% - except that we can not do this accurately because we do not know about the symmetry and we are using rounded %'s not angles.
