What kind of mattress do you have?

I slept on spring for 50+ years and we got a foam recently and it is weird.
I get kind of hot and sweaty when just sleeping on it even though we have a generous top pad thingie.

My mattress is about 8 years old so it is getting close to being replaced. I just purchased a Serta 3-inch memory foam mattress topper from Overstock and it should bring back the comfort to my current pillowtop bed. I have a tough time justifying the purchase of a new bed at the 5-10 year old time frame when a mattress topper can give the same comfort as a brand new bed. Beyond 10 years or in the presence of back pain and joint pain a new mattress may be the solution to a better nights rest.

My sprung mattress is around 15 years old. I don''t know when you are supposed to replace them. Its still firm and comfy and I don''t have any back problems or anything.

Tempurpedic.

It came with the husband. Even before we moved in together I would stay over at his place more often than mine by far as I fell for the bed in addition to falling for the husband!

It took me a few nights to adjust to the change from a spring mattress but I would never go back now. I sleep a zillion times better (i.e. deeper) and feel refreshed. The only thing I find is that it warms up so if you are used to piling on lots of blankets or sheets to stay warm you may need to adjust. I like this about it though! It springs back with no problem (i.e. you cannot tell that we were sleeping on it moments after we get up out of it).

I have had all sorts...from water beds in my early years, to springs, to futons (gasp!), to army cots, to pillow tops...this is the best one by far.

The newer foam ones are supposed to be better than the older ones were in that they don''t trap heat as much and also your body doesn''t create a "trough" that you have to climb out of. Plus, when we were looking, the XHH (who also bought the same mattress) and I tested it by one of us lying on it and the other doing a flying leap onto the other side (yes, the people at the mattress store loved us -- NOT!) to see how much movement there was, and the answer was *none*!

I have a love/hate relationship with our mattress. We have a fake Tempurpedic with memory foam. I like that it''s very quiet-- no squeaking springs. It''s not the most comfortable thing in the world, but once I''m snuggled in, I''m usually pretty happy.

My husband begged me to agree to get this mattress, and he will admit now that we should have either stuck with the real deal or just gone with a regular mattress.

That''s it! The trough! I was trying to figure out a way to explain what it''s like to climb out of bed sometimes but I couldn''t think of a good way. There''s no real give to the mattress, so I feel stuck. It''s kind of funny at times and annoying at others.

We have a 6 year old spring mattress. It''s fine, but starting to feel a little creaky and I get "hot spots" that hurt in the morning where my hip or knee press into a spring while I sleep.

I really want to get a latex mattress, but maybe we''ll try a topper first...

We have a ComfortSelect. It is about 10+ years old and still good but could use some new padding. My son has a Tempurpedic and loves it. He is very boney and it supports all his sharp edges. For me it gets a little warm but I think the heavier you are the deeper you sink.

I think this is very true. I kind of "float" on the top (the XBF likened it to one of those super lightweight bugs floating on top of the water) but he (the XBF) sank in a bit.

Spring! It's the best mattress I've ever slept on.

I TRIED to do the foam thing.. it's just not for me.

ETA: ours is 3 years old... it was the first thing we replaced when we first started dating. His other mattress was ROCK HARD and a queen- I'm a stomach sleeper so I always felt like my boobs were being pushed out my back. We got a king this time around

We''ve had a spring mattress for the last 9 years. It''s a firm one, so I have an egg grate topper on it, and we sleep great. I bought a memory foam topper a few years ago and we boiled on that thing! It doesn''t help that we live in a desert and don''t turn the A/C below 80 degrees. DH has said no foam mattress in our future. I think and air one might be what we need next time around.

I am an old hippie lol, I slept on regular waterbeds since the early 1980''s, now I have a pillowtop waveless waterbed, its getting old, next time I will just get a regular pillowtop mattress

We still use the pillow top mattress and box spring set my late FIL bought on sale for about $4k from Bloomingdale''s in the mid 90''s, and it''s got to be the most comfortable and supportive mattress I''ve ever slept on. It has silk/cotton blend fabric, is a beast to turn over, and is nice and quiet.

We have a king size latex matress. We have had it about a year and it took a little bit of getting used to, definately different to sleeping on a pillow top or spring bed. It moulds to the shape of your body so it ''hugs'' you when you are sleeping. Soft but supportive. I love it!

Thats the WHOLE reason we got a king size last year.. becasue our two cats were taking up too much room on the queen and neither of us were getting any sleep!

We have a spring mattress with a not too thick pillow top. It''s comfy enough. I like Tempurpedics (I used to sleep on them a lot at Westins when I traveled for work) but they make me super sweaty, so I know my husband would be DRENCHED in sweat if we got one.

He gets sweaty enough sleeping on our regular mattress!

I did a lot of research before we bought our mattress recently. DH and I are both heavy people so we got a really good spring mattress and then put on a 2" latex topper on. We get the support of the innerspring but the comfort of latex. And, when the latex starts wearing down in a few years, we can just replace it for $200 instead of buying another new bed.

We have the cheapest of the cheap, a special model made specifically for ARC. It is a spring and is about 4 years old. We have the world''s most comfortable matress pad, so we have not had any problems. When we are not starving students, we want an air matress. We both love soft ones and memory foam is just too hot for us. We got a queen size to have room for our cats! Over the years, we have had full sized and even shared the really thin dorm matresses for months on end, so we are used to sleeping in small spaces, plus, we like antique beds and they were smaller. Besides, my parents have a king and the cats sleep on the people no matter how big the bed is because they are warm.

the downside of course is the cover, its a pain in the tush to remove and put back on.

I have a non-flippable spring mattress with a 4 inch pillow top, queen size. I have had it for almost 5 years and even though I''m young it has been my favorite mattress that I have ever slept on. In the past 5 years I have slept on 8 different mattresses and by far mine leaves me the most revived and without back or other pain.

We just got a simmons beautyrest (spring) and really reallly like it. We''ve had it less than a month so maybe I should post after we''ve had it awhile. Previously I''ve slept on cheaper spring mattresses, or a futon.

On our previous spring mattress we got a 1.5" latex topper and really loved it, but we can''t use it on our new bed unless we buy all new sheets.
