My lease is about to be over in a few months and I need to get a new car. I currently drive a 2006 Saab 9-3 which I love but I do not love how the front has been changed in the newer models. I have always wanted an SUV and my husband and I are planning to start trying for a baby soon so an SUV would be ideal, but with gas prices I plan to stay away from SUVs for now. So what kind of 4 door cars are you ladies driving that are baby friendly?
 
We have been having the same discussion in my house. One of our leases is up soon too and the other 8 months later. I too wanted an SUV, but don't want to pay the price. FI told me last night he's putting a deposit on a Prius... I know they are great with gas and all that, but I personally don't like the look of them. Funny thing is that he wants a Mercedes G Wagon too... Silly in my book. He only thinks one of us should have a practical car... LOL
I've been thinking about the hybrid Lexus RX, even though the hybrid isn't all that great at least it's a little better.
 
I have a two door mustang - can''t wait to get rid of it and get a four door car

My husband has a Nissan Maxima - and we love it! It''s super reliable and very spacious - also gets decent gas mileage at about 24 miles city - and 28+ hwy...
 
CrookedRock....my husband was also in love with the Prius. He''s very much into Hybrids. Unfortunately for him I hated the way the Prius looked and convinced him not to get one. He instead bought a Honda Civic which gives him good mileage which is important for him since he drives farther to work everyday than I do. I care about gas mileage which is why I don''t want an SUV but I am not super crazed with it. I was thinking about the new 2009 Maxima. From the commercials on tv it looks like the body style has been changed quite a bit. I have been keeping my eye out for one on the streets.
 
I have friends that have Nissans and they like them just fine. Haven''t seen the new one yet, but they are def getting better with every new year.
Right now we both drive a Lexus. An IS and GS... so stupid, basically the same car! We love them though! I am going to be hard pressed to stray from Lexus from here on out.
 
I drive a 2005 Honda Civic. I leased it 3 years ago, and just recently bought it.

I LOVE my car. Almost 60,000 miles, and no mechanical issues at all, just typical maintenance. Also, great gas mileage.

I can''t say enough about Honda cars.
 
I drive a fully loaded Mazda CX-9. We looked at the entire cross-over market, since I am an SUV only girl...Mazda was by far my favorite...however, the gas mileage isn''t so so great.

I''d avoid SUV Hybrids...from my research, the extra cost of the car far out ranks what you save on gas...making the hybrid nearly a wash...if not more expensive.
 
I testdrove one of those Lexus hybrids just last week and let me tell you I was in

! My parents have two Lexuses & I might just have to trade in the Rover for one when I graduate!
 
I drive a 2008 Subaru Legacy. I l-o-v-e it! it''s such a dependable car (**knock on wood**) and a very smooth ride.
 
Nissan Versa - it''s so cute and fun to drive, but it will be great when we have kids. 4-door hatch back. I also really like the Nissan Rogue, but the mileage isn''t as good.
 
We have a Prius and I LOVE it.

We don't have to pay the London Congestion Charge because it's a hybrid ($20 a day

or $100 a day for an SUV), it is really good on fuel economy, I love the way it can park itself (although I still don't trust it) and the central satnav system and other features are great.

Can't praise it enough really - DH loves it too.
 
I drive a 2005 Civic too! It would be great for kids because the backseat is huge!!! I don''t sit back there often, but when I do, I always think, man, this is huge!!!

Though I''m also a huge fan of Nissans. The gas mileage is not as good as my Civic, but an Altima is my dream car and the new Maximas are sexy!

Hubby and I both drive 2007 4-door Honda Civics. We wanted cars with great gas mileage (average 32 mpg) that were cheap enough to pay off in a year. We love our Civics.

I had been driving a 2002 Chevy Equinox (about 19 mpg), and hubby had been driving a 2001 Chevy Blazer. I was really nervous about trading in my SUV, but I feel so much better driving my Civic.
 
DH drives a Nissan Maxima and I drive a Plymouth Neon. Mine will be the first to be replaced, (though we probably won''t replace it until we absolutely have to) and DH really wants to replace it with a Nissan SUV, but I''m wary with gas prices. We really love his Nissan, but I love the gas mileage I get with my Neon!

I''ve heard such good things about hondas that I''m leaning that way. We''ve got a while though.
 
I have a ''97 Toyota Camry that I will drive until it dies, at which point I will get another used Toyota Camry. I rented the new Toyota Camry when my car got hit and I loved it!
 
I have a 1999 VW Beetle. I bought it used about 7 years ago. It''s okay, but the repairs are always incredibly pricey.

Fiance has a 2008 Honda Civic, which I love driving. Four our next car, we want either a Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV-4, or a Subaru Forester.
 
I drive a Landrover LR3 HSE and hubby drives a supercharged Range Rover.

I would love to get the mercedes with three rows and keep my LR3, as our third car right now is a hassle to get service on. I am waiting to see if a larger car that is more fuel efficient is on the horizon...I have three kids and a dog and carpool a lot so a tiny car is not an option for me.
 
I drive the ultimate mom car - a Toyota Sienna minivan. It''s ubiquitous and as boring as they come, but it has plenty of room for all of our needs.

My husband has a Lexus GS350. Not as much room as the Sienna, of course, but it fits all 5 of us easily if we''re just running around town.
 
I drive a mini van and I SO miss driving a cute little stick shift car! I have too many kids for a small car though.
 
i drive a 2001 Toyota 4 dr truck.
wife drives a 2006 Lexus IS 350
older daughter drives a 2001 Civic
younger daughter drives a 2007 Civic
 
I drive a 2007 Volvo S-40 and I lovelovelove it. I''m a nanny for one toddler and I can fit her stuff/stroller/seat and everything in just fine. And of course Volvos have good safety ratings, which is nice.
 
A 2007 Lexus LX470 SUV, but I went and looked at a BMW 5 series. Worst experience ever.

Penn - my parents have a 470 & I absolutely love it! I don''t like BMWs really, either.
 
I have a 2008 Ford Edge SEL and I LOVE IT! I wanted a crossover and drove quite a few, but the Edge just stood out for the costs/performance/and I generally just liked the look of it! I think it would be perfect for kids, as well as strollers and all the other stuff that you need to carry along. Hope that helps!

We''re both in the market for new cars soon too. I have an Audi A4 Quattro and DH has an Accord Coupe. We''re considering an Acura MDX or the Lexus RX (possibly hybrid) for him. I really like the AWD Lexus IS. I think we should have one larger vehicle so we don''t have to ask our friend to borrow his truck all the time.

CrookedRock- How has your experience been with the IS?
 
i drive the honda odyssey and love it - three kids.

my husband just got the camry hybrid and we love it as well. it rides like a camry, has the roominess of the camry, and is the compromise between the comfort of the regular camry and the green-ness of the prius.

I just traded in my 2006 Saab 9-3! I loved that car, but we had a baby - same situation as you. I had to go with an SUV, because I''m 5''9", and my husband is 6''3", so it was killing our backs to do all the bending to get the baby in & out of the car. I have a girlfriend who''s 5'' though, and she''s fine with a sedan (she has a Honda 4 -door) because the SUVs are too high for her, so I think that may be something to consider with car shopping. When they''re under a year old they''re still pretty light, but trying to wrangle a toddler into a low car was awful ;)

We got a 2008 Volvo XC90, which is an SUV, and it only gets about 17 miles per gallon. However, I''m a stay at home mom, so I don''t drive much (maybe 5-10 miles a day) and I only end up filling up the tank about once every 3 weeks. It''s absolutely the safest SUV on the road, which is why we decided to go for that one in particular, and I''m glad we did, because we live in the DC area, and people drive like maniacs around here ;)
 
I have a Subaru Legacy. Its a great car, 4 door, AWD, and gets about 25/33 mpg town/highway respectively. I am not a mother, but as for a baby goes, there would be plenty of room in the back for a baby!

I have a friend in the insurance business (he's an adjuster). He said they had to total a 2008 hybrid the other day due to a front end collision. The damages were not that bad and in a normal SUV they would have just repaired it. But replacing all of the parts cost more than the value of the car.

I have a 2007 Corolla. It gets 38 highway miles and is surprisingly roomy.

I had a Chevy Cavalier that I don't recommend to anyone. I drove it until it literally died on me (in the middle of the highway).

We are getting a Ford Edge next month. Also surpirsingly roomy and comfy SUV.
 
I drive a 07 Saab 9-3 fully-loaded. My husband got my hand-me-down 00 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo fully-loaded. His car is up next, but we drive together and never use the Jeep, so we may not get one for a while....
