What jewelry would u buy if u had $ 10K

What piece of Jewelry would you buy if you had $ 10 K and why? Or would you buy more than 1 piece?

My husband and I went jewelry shopping in NYC yesterday and I could not make up my mind what I wanted!! I was thinking of tennis bracelet with diamonds but the ones I liked, white Gold, total carat 8.5 the cost was $ 9K. 9 Thousand dollars for a tennis bracelet?! I feel like it is a lot of money. I personally only own a stunning engagement ring and small gold pieces but not other diamonds.. There is sooo much out there that I felt overwhelmed of what to buy.
Any ideas would be great. Thanks
 
I love simple, quality pieces so I''d probably get a 1 carat Asscher of high color and clarity and have it set into a very thin bezel pendant in platinum.

do you have a pair of diamond studs? That''s what I would probably get.
 
Butterfly, are you looking to buy jewelry for every day wear of special occasion? If everyday, I''d split that 10K between diamond hoops/studs and a diamond pendant. You can get some nice pieces with your budget. I personally see a tennis bracelet as special occasion piece but if you are going to wear it every day, spend the entire 10K and enjoy it.
 
Sorry, I misunderstood your question. I''d buy multiple pieces if I were in your position. Earrings definitely, maybe studs and hoops, and a pendant or dbty necklace. My suggestion above would be for a RHR.
 
I would buy some type of necklace, white gold with diamonds or with jade!
 
I'd buy mulitple pieces too. Studs, and a diamond bangle would be my picks. As well as some affordable pave hoops. or a lovely DBY chain and pendant.
 
Hmmmm... I''m kinda a watch gal ... if I didn''t have a nice watch already I might blow the whole wad on a Jaeger or a Cartier

My 2nd idea would be a juicy pair of platinum martini set studs -- probably RB ideal cut from an online merchant who deals in Super Ideals (because they''d stay sparklier for longer w/o cleaning)
I''d spend the whole chunk on this item & choose the largest G/H color I could get for the $$ so I''d never have to upgrade. (If you spread it out on lots of smaller items I think you''ll want to upgrade later instead of adding pieces)

FWIW -- a diamond tennis bracelet would be so far down my list that it would never come up. I dunno -- for some reason they don''t appeal to me ... seem kinda old fashioned & flashy or something. For instance: do you ever say, "wow - what a MODERN tennis bracelet .. how FRESH". **shrug**

For 10K ... keep it a) CLASSIC b) simple c) scrumptious

Hmm, what is not flashy to you? I think anything under 2ct per ear is not flashy

Classics pieces sound great - studs or smaller pave hoops, some thin stack rings to mix and match, a solitaire or pave pendant. You should browse the websites of the vendors recommended here to get some ideas. Look under "Resources" on top of the page.
 
If I had your jewelry, I''d probably invest in large studs or a large solitaire pendant. I would sent them to leon to be set in simple martini like settings. Since you didn''t mention owning any of these classics, studs or a pendant can be worn anywhere and go with anything. I wear my (small) diamond pendant everyday and I just love it. Someday I''ll get a pair of studs to match.

If you like the tennis bracelet, but feel it''s a bit much both money and flash wise, how about getting a smaller one w/around 4 cts? Then use the rest of the money for a pair of studs or a pendant.

Personally, I love so many different styles and have a huge wish list, that I''d for sure split the $10K among many pieces. I''m also not into huge bling so, the largest single stone I would consider is a .80 ct. diamond to wear as an upgraded eng. stone or as a pendant and then spend the rest on smaller pieces.

A thin tennis bracelet WOULD be nice and it would make for excellent heirloom piece!

I have a 4 ct. tennis bracelet and almost never wear it because it looks too dressy with my casual attire. If I was starting out, I''d probably get studs and a diamonds-by-the-yard bracelet and necklace. I think the DBY items are better for everyday, unless you work in a very dressy environment.
 
I wear my 3ct tennis bracelet day and night! I think it''s a nice simple accent piece... My mom wears an 8ct everyday, and people def. notice. Mine doesn''t get much attention... I love it b/c of how understated it is. I fell it is never inappropriate to wear it!!!

I agree about the diamonds-by-the-yards. I have a pendant and love it. It even works great with a tank top!
 
I''d get a 5 stone RHR with stones as big as I could get for the money I had. Maaaaaybe I''d be able to get about a 2.5 - 3 tcw... oh yum-o!!!!

Can''t help you with the non flashy part. You are talking 10K...if you had 100 to spend...I can do not flashy.

For me...it would be

a tennis bracelet...(oops flash)

shared prong eternity band with a unique cut of stone. Say...aschers or princess. (unique in that it isn''t your cut of your ering.) I saw one that was emerald cut and set so you couldn''t see the prongs...and it was breathtaking. (double oops flash again)

At that price I may consider a good quality time piece. (may not be flash...)

I just realized with proper shopping I can get my list for under $10k...oh thank you! But honey...you gotta have flash with $10k ...woo hoo!!

If you were wanting to create a heirloom...maybe make it something that allows a few stones to be set for significance of say your daughter and you. For example if it were a watch you can counter sink a few stones of color or not color to represent each of you. Or engrave your name and date...and then when she gets it add her name and date...something. A watch would allow this space. When she has her daughter..the addition would continue. Or a bangle or a rolling ring...
 
I think every gal should have a nice pair of studs. Sooo, I would recommend this....I own a pair from this company, they''re very reputable and easy to work with.


I''d get this pair of diamonds, with this setting. Gorgeous! Classic, yet definitely not too flashy, just enough.

Since I don''t own diamond studs, I think I will go ahead and purchase. Now the question is what is the best setting for ear studs? I want it as close to my earlobe as possible, in white gold. I think I want to spend $ 4k for a pair.,. how big will be the diamonds and do I purchase the stone first and then find somebody to do the setting or how do I go about it? Also is cut the most important C'' when purchasing a small diamond?
For rest of the money I think I will get a necklace with a diamond pendant.

butterfly, the Martini setting I linked in my post will sit the closest to your ear. It comes in 8 prong or 3.

If you are buying locally, I would ask around and hopefully the place you want to get the diamonds from carries, or can get you the setting. As for what that amount will get you, it depends. A local retailer could charge twice as much per stone as online, and it may not even be as good of quality....Online you'd be looking at something in the low .60's (each) range, G-I, SI1 ish.

And yes, cut is still king with studs!

Like Ellen, I got my studs at WF and had them set them. That is the easiest way to do it!

Cut is most important regardless of size! I also purchased my earrings through Whiteflash (who also set them) and LOVE them. They sparkle like crazy!

Closest setting to the earlobe is the martini setting. I don't have that style, so I cannot say if they're comfortable, but I got the basket settings and love them. It took me a few weeks to get use to sleeping with them on at night.

I have them, and honestly, I am never aware I have earrings in. (.58 each)
 
If you''re thinking of building up your diamond jewellery wardrobe, I''d get one or two classic pieces. Solitaire earrings and pendant will never date and can be dressed up or down. I feel those pieces are the basics, more so than a tennis bracelet.
