The look on his face

I still wake up every morning and remember my dog is gone. Both because I just miss her so much and because almost every morning of my adult life I woke with her going bananas about how amazing it was that it was morning and how much she wanted food. Now I wake up and my very old cat immediately crawls onto my chest and we just stay like that for a while.
I know how depressing that is!
Edit: I don't want to leave it on such a depressing note, so: the cat who comes to sit on me every morning is 17 and I've had him since he was a kitten and these mornings are the highlight of his life. He's the best!
"I'd REALLY rather stay here in my husband's arms, but I need to pee!".
Will today be the day? My due date is rapidly approaching!
"Why is the cat screaming?" (He has both an auto-feeder, and a water fountain. He just likes having company.)![]()
I always thought cats were easier because you don’t have to walk them. I don’t think so anymore since reading stories of all the cats on PS!![]()
It depends. For the first 28 years we had cats in our family it was pretty easy. Except when they got sick. But our latest crew. Much harder than dogs. I’ve had both in my family and I’ll say it does depend on the specific animal but generally dogs obey and cats will not. Nope. No. No way.![]()

I have found that dogs are much more time-consuming, but they're usually easier to deal with. Today, for example: I was eating a biscuit. One of my cats is completely obsessed with butter. So she tried to steal my biscuit 15 times. 15 times!! And she only stopped because the biscuit disappeared. My dog would also want to eat the biscuit, but I could just tell her "leave it" and that would be that. There is no reasoning with a cat.
Dogs are also usually really easy to understand, especially as you spend years and years together. It's like you develop your own language. But I have absolutely no idea what on earth one of my cats wants. She talks ALL the time. It sounds like she's having full conversations while staring at me, and these conversations begin the second I step in the door and she runs up to me screaming her tiny cat head off. She's lived with me for 14 years and I have gained no insight into this behaviour. She will forever remain a mystery!
And, yeah, dealing with a sick dog is much easier than dealing with a sick cat. Especially in terms of getting them to eat and the consequences of not eating. Unless something is very very wrong, a dog *will* eat eventually. A cat will refuse food to the point of physical damage because you got pate instead of shredded cat food. How cats have been so prolific I will never know.
This! That describes my life so well. All three of our cats will try to grab food off of plates. Sometimes succeeding. (Leading to chasing the cat who snatched the NY strip steak off my plate because I won't let her keep her spoils and DH laughing his butt off as I and one of the other cats race to get hold of her first) The dogs look interested and stretch to get a closer sniff, but leave it when told to.
Chewed wires, damaged furniture, broken dishes, and so much more all attributed to the cats. One girl we had actually grabbed hold of the rib roast and tried to run off with it even though it was bigger than her. Another time, it took weeks to get the tumeric stains off of her and various things around the house after she grabbed a dried lime out of the pot I was cooking in.
Best way to get them to hate the food you served is to buy a few cases because it was in sale. That is the signal to go on a hunger strike until just the right new food can be found. One guy insisted on tuna pate with water stirred in until just the right consistency and topped with finely crumbled freeze dried chicken. This was the evolution after beef pate with no water. Had multiple vet visits for him and another senior girl as they kept up the hunger strikes long enough to dehydrate.
HI:
Why did I go to bed so late?
cheers--Sharon
