Hello CS friends! I am at the start of my CS journey and would love to learn more from everyone's experiences.

I strive to be a one-and-done kinda gal but with so many different shades of every colour of the rainbow, I'm struggling to arrange my thoughts!

What is your favourite piece per colour and why? Pictures highly encouraged :kiss2:

RED
ORANGE
YELLOW
GREEN
BLUE
PURPLE

+ notable mentions for:
PINK
GREY
BROWN

---

I'll go first, but seeing as I only started buying CS this year for the inherent stone rather than a design, my rainbow is very patchy...

RED - don't own

ORANGE - don't own. (I have a citrine as part of Vivianna Torun's Savannah collection for Georg Jensen. I like the setting more than the stone itself so it's not a "favourite" orange)

YELLOW - don't own.

GREEN - my Guatemalan jadeite Buddha, link here

BLUE - don't own. (I have a couple of sapphire rings and enjoy my Sabbadini hexagon sapphire bombe ring, but bought them for the design, link here. Not a "favourite" blue)

PURPLE - don't own. (I have an amethyst ring by British designer Hattie Rickards but bought it for the design, more photos here)

+ notable mentions for:
PINK - don't own

GREY - does icy jade count? If so, I'm enjoying the glow of my icy jadeite bangle more and more

BROWN - don't own

They look wonderful on you, and each one is a stand-out creation, complementing your style.

I’m drawn to your jadeite bangle, I can see why it’s called icy jadaite - it’s like peering through multi dimensional ice world.

I love colours of nature the best and bring my little nature treasures with me to admire them as I go along my day.

But beware as stepping into the world of tantalising coloured gems can be a big distraction while you’re walking around and staring at them can be a bit of a hazard lol

Today’s fave is green and blue of Chivor twin emeralds and blue tanzanite. Almost any other day it’d be the red of ruby, but the green is a second best IMG_9678.jpegIMG_9662.jpegIMG_9685.jpegIMG_9653.jpegIMG_9642.jpegIMG_9666.jpegIMG_9680.jpeg

I absolutely luv blue-green gemstones and its my favorite color. I dont like blue or green normally to wear or otherwise but in gemstones has a mystic magic look.
Purplish pinkish red,.pinkish- red, purplish- reddish pink, orange-red and vivid yellowish-green, orangy-yellow, yellow, violet-blue or blue-violet, pinkish-orange, brownish-yellowish orange, reddish-orange, light orange, brown, black, light pink, deep blue & royal blue, strong or vivid green, mint green and sky blue, grey, colorless all the way i like all colors, it could be very dark or pale or medium or whatever, when the cut and clarity is very very good, i love the stone.

Buddha looks phenomenal

Oh my gosh! I must admit (with my newbie hat on) that I’ve not really looked at Chivor material before… and that vibrant verdant colour is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing!

Out of interest - as a big blue sapphire is out of my budget, do you think tanzanite is a good alternative blue?

Now THIS is the rainbow to Asgard! :kiss2:

Out of curiosity - do you have any significant regrets along the way to your current collection? And also, any upcoming projects we should be prepping ourselves for?

Hehe thanks, I think you’ve just about described all shades of the rainbow and more! And this is also why I think CS-land is so dangerous but a never ending learning opportunity (at least, that’s how I’ll justify it to my husband…) :evil2::geek2:

Case for tanzanite - it can be a good and economical alternative to blue sapphire. Relatively inexpensive, lots of big stones available on market, plentiful, and comes in gorgeous blue violet colour.

Case against - it’s a softer stone, not suitable for daily wear. It can chip, abrade end crack if hit on hard surfaces. So it is not as durable as sapphire. For me it’s a going out ring. It’s fine in earrings and pendants though. Another thing, due to its trichroism, it displays red or violet flashes. Depending on what you like, that can be a plus, or not. This tanzanite I love as it stays strong electric blue in all viewing sources and orientations. My other tanzanite doesn’t do it for me.

Sooo, long story short… save your money for a big bold blue cabochon sapphire… that’s what I would do, might do, no wait.. not allowed to do lol

Yes!!!

The rubellite has a window! The was my first stone out of Covid so I think I just wanted something nice and dove head first into it without the usual sanity checks. I don’t wear much red and have been offered much better rubellites since but I don’t care enough to get a new ring.

And the other regret was a very defunct project involving a pink. I should never have bought this pink but I had been searching for a long time I got desperate and talked myself into it. It was completely irrational and the stone ended up being too small for me but I was just so tired at that point I wanted to settle. I know I encourage settling but there’s good settling and bad settling. I distinctly felt it lacked glow but still forged ahead. Plus pink spinel shifts and that really bothered me. Almost happened again with a 6 ct heated pink that was seriously the best price ever but I could not love it and learnt from the spinel drama.

I gave it to my sister because she loves it. She didn’t have any expectations about it so she loved it at first sight whereas I was quite disappointed by it. It looks nothing like Chansey and in my mind I wanted it to look like Chansey even though I was never sent videos of it looking like Chansey. It was odd. I gaslighted myself into it. But the pink was such a long, discouraging journey before Chansey.

One of my favourite purchases is Bulbasaur. His size is amazing and I don’t care what anyone says about owning a fine small incredibly coloured sapphire blah blah blah I get so so so much satisfaction from wearing him. Oddly enough he’s the ring that undoubtedly receives THE MOST compliments. People just notice him. I think it’s the size cuz I have many colours that outshine him but people love him. Strangers off the street who look like they have no interest in jewellery will compliment and ask to look at him.

I reckon my personal take (for me) is that a larger size will fare better in the long run. The size can make up for any niggles I might feel after but small is small is small and it just compounds my dissatisfaction. Even when I truly love a colour I will look at it and think “but you’re so small.” I think that’s just me though!

Thanks for the detailed explanation and the suggestion of a blue sapphire cab, I don’t know why I’ve never even thought of that before!

Thanks for sharing your wisdom! Chansey is just so beautiful.

And I love the colour of Bulbasaur, plus the marquise halo is gorgeous (but I have to point out, shouldn’t it be Squirtle haha?).

As for size… well, you know I’ve been influenced by your fabulous giant rings haha.
