What is your favourite cutting style for a gemstone? I am planning to recut one or two gemstones. Some precision cut gemstones do not impress me. I dislike some of the cutting styles on the pavilion for tourmaline and cushion. They look like bow tie to me. I hope everyone share your opinion.

My favorite is Asschers, followed closely by Emerald cut.

If we're talking diamonds, it's an easier question.
In the case of gemstones, it really depends on the specific stone.
I generally feel like Kenny does- a great step cut always gets me......but in certain cases, a fully faceted gem is called for.
What are the color and current shape/cutting styles of the two candidates?

EC and other step cuts, and hearts.

DK :))

One is pink oval/cushion step cut on the pavilion . The other one is pinkish purple garnet sq cushion step cut on the pavilion.

I love to see a gem Portuguese cut!

I’m into chopping, dicing, and mincing. Julienne is my least favorite.

:lol-2:

I’m most drawn to step cuts. I don’t even care if they have a giant window sometimes. Depends on other factors at that point. Like I would not turn down a windowed step cut aquamarine with the most perfect color imaginable (to me), you know? To each their own...there’s a reason why that’s a popular saying.

I can say a general step cuts, I love the bold chunky flashes and the geometry of them (especially square shapes). I don't want to say just asscher because I also love french cuts and crisscuts, the list goes on and on.

I love colored stones that are portuguese cut also. I love the sparkle and interest it adds to colored stones.

Love step cuts and also love the Portuguese cut too for the reasons @luv2sparkle mentioned. It’s very pretty for colored gemstones.

Step cuts mainly but I do appreciate some of the more unique cuts too like those by Osiris Gems...
