hmm..i''ve never actually heard of those....=(

Depends on the season.

During the summer, we love cantaloupe and nectarines. Grapes are a standard in our household. We also love Japan pears. I worked on a farm in Tottori where they raise them back in 1988.

Fuji apples.

Speaking of lychee, we had a tree growing in our yard as a kid. Loved to pick them in season and peel the pokey skin off them right off the tree.

Dewberries. They are like really big black berries.
When I was little we had about 2.5 acres of land and these berries grew everywhere. SO sweet and so good.
My dad would hook up a piece of plywood to the back of our bright blue tractor and drag my cousins and I along so we could pick berries and toss them into our baskets. We would make ourselves sick from eating them.

I also am a big fan of tangelo''s and good honeydew melon.

Have you guys ever had fruit pizza? It''s great! If you want the recipe, PM me. It''s very easy and kids love it!

Rainier Cheeries.

DF, when I was growing up, my grandmother had a loquat tree in our backyard. They were good too.
FYI, loquats are a small orange fruit about the size of an apricot.

I love strawberries!!!

I love fruit! I love to make fruit salad with bananas and nectarines and peaches and blueberries. Hungry just thinking about it!

I''m not sure I have a favorite, but if I absolutely have to chose, I would go for mangos!

DF, I just tried Lychee at a restaurant on Tuesday...does it count if it was at the bottom of a glass of champagne??

I love almost ALL fruit...cherries and strawberries being my favorites...but I''d never turn away a banana, orange, grapes, pear...yum...I WANT fruit salad NOW!!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the giant Crunchy Persimmons (sp?) that only come out a couple months of the year. They are the ones shaped kinda squat, like pumpkins. My Father-in-law grows them really huge, and sweet!

I hate the mushy variety (that are shaped like peaches) though....any mushy fruit is yuck.

When I took a cooking class the instructor said we could put salt on all fruit if we wanted to and it would make the fruit just ''pop.'' Salt is not a spice, it a taste enhancer...

Well, I love fruit. Almost everything. However, some of my favorites are those that are available for very short amounts of time, I guess because its like a treat that I have to wait for one time every year. Sooooo Rainier Cherries, however they seem to have extended their growing season and prices have dropped quite considerably. And Persimmons.

But, has anyone ever had a nespola? I believe they are popular in Spain & Italy. My family in Sicily introduced them to me one time and my last few weeks I was there that was ALL I ate! They're fabuous, however, I have not been able to find them in the US. I hope they're in season when I'm in Spain in a couple weeks. In English they're called Medlar fruit, but I've never seen them around.

ETA: I've never tried salt on watermelon...or any other fruit, I don't get how it affects the taste though. Maybe I'll have to give it a try...

Hmmm, cantaloupe!! That''s my absolute fave, followed by strawberries. Strawberries with sugar, or strawberries dipped in chocolate!!

Blue- What''s a nespola taste like?
Jaysonsmom- I have never had a persimmon- what season and what are they like?

There''s 2 varieties, they are both light orange-orangy red, and the size of a regular tomato. The squattier one is crunchy, hard to describe it''s texture, but it''s refreshing tasting, not sickening sweet. The peach shaped one is meant to be eaten mushy, and it''s sickening sweet when really ripe. Since I find them mostly in Asian Markets, I''m going to take a stab and say that they grow in warm weather...they are gettin more and more popular though, and I see them occasionally in regular American supermarkets.

It''s kinda like pears....some people like creamy soft pears (like bartlett), and I like mine really crunchy (like bosc). So me a mushy sweet fruit doesn''t seem like fruit, it''s more of a dessert.

Papaya is another favorite! I love it warm with sweet sticky rice.
18.gif

Jorman -- That''s it! Its sort of a pear tasting type thing? But better? Haha this was a couple years ago and I still think about it and look for it at my local stores.

jaysonsmom -- I like the sickeningly sweet ones hehe...we let them sit sometimes for a couple weeks until they get super mushy and then cut them open and break out the spoons. I''ve actually never had the harder variety, I''ll have to look for them.
