What is your favorite American champagne?

I'm glad you didn't ask about "whisky." :roll2: My favorite would have to be the champagne from California's Champagne region, near the Mojave. It's very dry.
 
There is no such thing as American Champagne.
A beverage can't be Champagne if it's not from Champagne, France


I am not a fan of champagne because my body doesn't like carbonation.
My favorite go to instead is Reisling, Gewürztraminer and Moscato. Love these "flat" alcoholic beverages

BTW everyone, the Mojave is a huge, harsh desert that includes Death Valley. And I quoted "whisky" because the person touting US Champagne spelled it wrong. :wall:

I'm checking the price of Veuve Clicquot more often than I'm checking how my investments are doing. It might be that I'll no longer share when I have guests and serve them Prosecco instead, like, even be totally devious and put the Prosecco in an empty Veuve bottle. Most won't know the difference. :lol-2:
 
Yes, all the farmers need to do is plant some grape vines, sourced from USA grapes vines and bung them in the ground and voila, Sparkling wine in time for next Saturdays dinner party.

This is probably true. My favorite champagne is Cattier. Hard to find in the U.S. but one place around me sells it. Of course it was much cheaper in Reims......

According to Matata Math spending $XXXX traveling to France to buy a bottle of Champagne for $X because it costs $XX less than it does here is a perfectly good reason to go to Reims to buy it. I like my math very much.

There are so many amazing west coast sparkling wines. We have bought some at tastings -- just things that we happened to enjoy at the time. Thinking: we should get a couple of these to bring to Thanksgiving! Not really able to seek them out later.

I can't think of another wine style that has a higher percentage of bottlings rated at 90 or above (e.g., by WS or WE) than sparkling wine. In fact, I can't recall ever getting an offensive sparkling wine in a decent restaurant although almost everything else can be hit-or-miss.

But: we enjoyed the $3 grocery-store cava in Spain and plenty of cheap Prosecco in Italy so take my opinion with a grain of salt. (Also, it's all about expectations. :cool2:)

Serve the first bottle Veuve and then go to Mionetto brut (sorry Mreader!). They both have organge labels so maybe no one will notice if you pour fast enough!

Thank you for the suggestion about the Mionetto which I shall ignore because I still remember that you have purchased and even imbibed Prosecco in cans...shiver...no credibility.

If I'm going to be devious, I'm going to be authentically devious and serve the Prosecco in a Veuve bottle.

Allllllrighttttt... I admit the canned stuff was a low level. But in my defense, I think I discovered it when I had the boathouse and was intent on things I could drink on the dock without worrying about broken glass. (At least, that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!)

Her story is legit but I'm not sure it's accurate. She used to throw a big party in a parking lot somewhere in the city in which she lived and didn't want to risk broken glass to tires, pets, people etc. I'm not sure if that came before the boat dock, during, or after. Apparently she doesn't remember the parties probably due to metal contamination in the brain from drinking too much Prosecco from cans. At least she graduated to drinking it from pretty glasses.

You're right! I did throw a big parties in the parking lot, but not sure when I found the TJ's canned stuff in realtion to that... I really do think the discovery was connected to the boathouse! You're also right about the potential mental contamination. Fortunately (or unfortunately!) there are pictures to help fill in my gaps.
 
Can I just say how instrumental this forum is in helping me chronical my life. :lol:
 
Not a fan of Champagne, or sparkling wines in general. I prefer reds, but I make an exception for a good Sauterne. I don't have it often enough for the tariffs to be a problem.

I will swallow hard at the price increase for my red wines, though - and then I will buy them.
