So, What is everyone''s Father Daughter dance? Also, what did the song it mean to you?
Was it a song that reminds you of your relationship with your dad? Or is it a song you chose because
the lyrics fit the "father daughter" relationship?

I''m a bit torn with the song I am choosing. Mostly because it''s not strictly a "father daughter" type of song.
It''s more of a love song, that reminds me of my parents because we used to listen to it together when I was young.
The song is so sentimental to me that it brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it.

However, my finace says that it doesn''t really fit the father daughter dance criteria because it is really a song about two lovers, not
a platonic love. It is "stuck on you" by Lionel Ritchie

We danced to "Butterfly Kisses". Ever since it first came out when I was about 13, I have cried everytime I hear it. My whole family has known for years that my dad and I would dance to that song.

I''m not familiar with the song that you are talking about. I wish I could give you an opinion.

My pick is "You Can''t Always Get What You Want" by The Rolling Stones. Obviously, doesn''t fit the "father / daughter" type song, but I''m choosing it because it absolutely reminds me of my dad. He used to say this to me...especially when it played on the radio...in a cheerful manner, so it always reminds me of us when I hear it.

I think choosing a song that is meaningful for you and your relationship with your parents is very special.

mine isn''t typical father/daughter dance either, actually more commonly a first dance song. it''s "into the mystic" by van morrison. but it''s sentimental to me & my dad. and it''s a surprise to him. so, i plan to get on the mic before the dance and share this story w/my guests: "when i was a little girl, my dad always washed my hair in the kitchen sink. music would always be playing in the background. when this song would come on my dad would look at me and say, "lee, who''s this?" and i''d reply, "daddy, it''s ''van the man.''" ...so, daddy, it''s van the man."

"You Are My Special Angel" by The Vogues... ya, I''m old. When I was a little girl my dad would dance me around the livingroom on his feet and sing this song to me.

"I Loved Her First" by Heartland
It made me cry

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there''s nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I''m not gonna stand in your way
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she''d find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first
How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she''d find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I''m going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

The song I''m picking for my father/daughter dance is "Beauty and the Beast" from the movie! lol.
No, it''s not the typical father/daughter song and no i''m not saying my dad is a beast :)

When I was little, this was my favorite movie.. and I would make my dad watch it all the time! Every time the song would come on the radio (which was pretty frequently when the movie was popular) we would sing it together. So the song is pretty sentimental to me and reminds me of great times with my dad.
So that will be the song for my father/daughter dance.

Do what makes you happy :)

We''re dancing to "My Girl", the Otis Redding version.

I know it''s cliche, but my dad is a musician and whenever he plays a gig he always sings that song and dedicates it to my sisters and I, so it''s special to us. I know my dad is going to get all teary eyed when we dance to it.

Gary Allen's "Tough Little Boys"

I cry every time I hear it!

My dad is a retired Air Force Chief Master Sgt. whose job was the head of the Military Police in the Air Force. Once he retired he worked at the Maricopa County Max. security Prison in AZ (heard of Joe Arpaio? The warden to makes inmates live in tents in the desert and wear pink? He was my dad's boss...)so he's always been a "tough guy" who inevitably always has a soft spot for his little girl.

Well I never once
Backed down from a punch
Well I'd take it square on the chin
But I found out fast
That bullies just laugh
And we've got to stand up to them

So I didn't cry when I got a black eye
As bad as it hurt, I just grinned
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again.

Scared me to death
When you took your first steps
And I'd fall every time you fell down
Your first day of school, I cried like a fool
And I followed your school bus to town

Well I didn't cry, when Old Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again

Well I'm a grown man
But as strong as I am
Sometimes its hard to believe
How one little girl, with little blonde curls
Could totally terrify me

If you were to ask, my wife would just laugh
She'd say "I know all about men
How tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again"

Well I know one day, I'll give you away
But I'm gonna stand there and smile
But when I get home, and I'm all alone
Well, I'll sit in your room for a while

Well I didn't cry when Old Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again

When tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again

I haven''t chosen ours yet but it will likely be from The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, or Meatloaf. Its all we ever danced to when I was a little girl. I think sentiment is more important than what the actual lyrics mean.

i think you should pick a song that reminds you of your relationship. if that lionel richie song is something that means something to you and your dad, go for it.

i''m doing a mother/daughter dance since my dad isn''t in the picture and i think i''ve narrowed it down to two songs, but who knows.
-somewhere over the rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo Ole (it would be played by my wedding band since i don''t have a dj but i like this version since it''s less sappy than the original somewhere over the rainbow). my mom''s name is dorothy so i thought it''d be cute and we both love the song.
-isn''t she lovely

it''s hard finding songs to fit this kind of a dance!

My father and I danced to a Spanish song titled "Amigo" written for Pope John Paul II by Roberto Carlos.

I heard that song by fluke one day while changing radio stations in the car and I had to pull over because I was crying so much.

Some of the lines translated roughly say:

You are my brother, really a soulmate my friend
The one that has been there each day on every road
Even though you are man, you have the soul of a child
He who gives me his friendship, respect and love
I remember that together we faced really tough moments
And you never swayed no matter how strong the winds came
Your heart is a home full of open windows
You are truly the most certain thing in all my uncertain hours

During those hard times that come in life
We look to the one that helps us find our way
And all the encouragement, strength and faith that you gave me
Give me the knowledge that you were always by my side
You''ve truly been the mate to my soul every day
Greeting me with open arms and a smile at each return home
You always tell me the greatest truths with open phrases
You are truly the most certain thing in all my uncertain hours

I can''t even begin to tell you all that I wish to say
But I hope that you feel in your soul that I think you are my greatest friend

My dad and I were both crying by the end of the song and so was my mom. My parents divorced when I was a teenager and anytime that I wanted to do something or anything happened my mom always encouraged us to call our dad. And he would always come no matter what. He really is one of my best friends and I really trust and value his judgement. Only my husband is closer to me now than my parents.

My dad and I danced to "Everything" by Michael Buble.

We were going to do the father/daughter dance at the end of the night and dance to "Save the Last Dance for Me" also by Michael Buble, but as the logisitics of the night went, it wouldn''t have quite worked. I did love Everything, thought, so did dad!

We aren''t having one because we both hate dancing! But I think "Stuck on You" is perfectly appropriate - it doesn''t have any dodgy suggestive lyrics as far as I can remember, so it could easily be applied to a father/daughter relationship.

JerseyGirl, I just happened to hear "I Loved Her First" last week, and it made me cry too! What a lovely song. I would totally use it if we were doing a father/daughter dance.

These are all such great songs. I''m not a BIW yet but I have a soft spot for Tim McGraws My Little Girl and every time I hear it I think of it being the song for my father/daughter dance.

This was our song.

I actually wanted to do something less father-daughtery, ("I Hope You Dance" by LeAnn Womack, specifically) but he vetoed it and picked that instead.

My father and sister danced to I hope you Dance at her wedding 9 years ago. It was beautiful.

Same! My dad called me out of the blue one day, and told me I had to buy this song on iTunes and let him know when I listened to it. He said it was the first song he''d ever heard where he listened to it and said, "That''s princesss!" I bawled my eyes out! I still can''t listen to it/read the lyrics without crying.

We danced to The Long Road by Pearl Jam.

I know it''s not a very "approrpiate" song but it made my father and I think of his mom who had passed away a few years ago. So, the song meant a lot to us and in the end that is all that matters. I am sure half the people missed the lyrics anyway.

We danced to "I have but one heart" by Dean Martin. It''s the song from the Godfather during the wedding scene. My dad loves those movies and for as long as I can remember, they remind me of him because everytime the movies are on TV he ALWAYS watches them. It was really cute when I asked him what song he wanted, he already had that one picked out. He''s also a big Dino fan so it was perfect.

Love all the song choices!
My father and I danced to Sunrise Sunset

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4CWgQQGyr4

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
I don''t remember growing older,
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn''t it yesterday when they were small?

Sunrise sunset, sunrise, sunset,
Swiftly flow the days,
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers,
Blossoming even as they gaze...

Sunrise sunset, sunrise, sunset!
Swiftly fly the years,
One season following another,
Laden with happiness and tears...

One season following another,
Laden with happiness and tears
