Do you happen to have the phone number to the representative you used? They are asking for $310 from me for a 10k ring. That's a little nutty?
I am on the east coast, so I doubt they would be able to help you. The rates may be due to where you live.

ETA: I see that you have found a lower rate. I am sure the individual insurance company may tack on some to the policy price, so it may pay to shop around.

Well, I just answered this on your other thread, but mine is about $280 for $24,000 in coverage from Chubb.

DS-

I know we''ve spoken about this before (but I cant remember).....Is all of your jewelry insured through Chubb? I need to insure my other jewelry (the only thing now I have insured is my e-ring). My w-bands and other valuable pieces are sitting un-insured and its freaking me out a bit. I inquired about adding them onto my homeowners policy, but my contact there told me that in order to do that, all of the pieces must be appraised first- what a PITA! I guess that''s why I havent gotten around to doing it.
Do you reccommend me insuring the rest of my stuff through Chubb or my homeowners (I have yet to check out the details of my homeowners policy, but I think its fairly decent)? Does homeowners cover you if your jewelry is lost or stolen outside of your home? I know that''s a dumb question. but I really dont know!

To the original poster....like pp''s said, your premium is based on the area you live in, previous claims, etc. I dont think that number is ridiculous for the area you live in for 10 K worth of coverage. I live in NJ (NYC metro area), and I pay about $400 p/y for 18K worth of coverage with Chubb.
Dani, I have several things still on a rider on homeowners. The reason I only put the e-ring and earrings on Chubb is that I had the current value on them to get the policy. I would have had to get new appraisals on the other items to move them to Chubb. The one I most need to move is my diamond tennis bracelet because I insured it for the purchase price a few years ago, and the prices I see now for a similar bracelet are a lot higher. If you have your items listed on a rider, then it should cover the same things that Chubb would. My HO insurance will attempt to replace the items, though, and not cut me a check. I probably wouldn''t even rebuy some of the things, so I probably should move it all to Chubb. Actually, on second thought, I really want to move the things I do not wear to a safe deposit box and not pay for insurance at all! I probably should add the Legacy band to the Chubb while they''ll still accept the sales receipt, though.

Seeker. If you have any phone numbers to CHUBB agents you are using, I would love to have them, the ones I''ve been contacting are not based in California.

Check Bill Castro first. I think he is used to dealing with people all over the country. I doubt seriously that the company I used does any non-local policies, but it certainly could not hurt to ask. If you can''t get a better quote, I''ll try to get the contact info for you.

Actually, talked to Bill Castro and he is no longer doing stand alone policies.

Okay, here is the link.

Ask for Wendy since she should know what you''re talking about. She did ours.

Let us know what they say so we''ll know if they will still do this kind of policy.

Sorry Roge...this is a surprise to me! He dealt w/ an insurance claim for us earlier this year and didn''t mention anything about no longer doing stand alones.

I just got a reply from an insurance agent that Chubb had on their website, that I called Monday. He said he talked to the Chubb underwriters and they told him that they would write a stand policy for jewelry only if it was valued at or above 100,000.00. Sorry but mine is no where near that!!! I only wish that it was!! He suggested that I put it on my homeowners policy. I guess a will give JM a call and see what they say.

I just got my engagement ring insured on a stand alone jewelry policy with a CHUBB agent in DC. I live in California. I insured mine for $14K appraisale value and cost was around $260/year for me. Here is the contact info:

I got a standalone Chubb policy for the ering, in Dayton, Oh, costing me $125/yr for $9355 insured (about 1.3%).

In regards to rates (I truly believe it depends on your area, although my agent told me that it doesn''t (how could that be?)), but my understanding is that the rate is also tiered. For example it is x$ per $100 up to $25,000 of coverage, and then there is a little discount to x$ per $100 of coverage for anything over $25k up to 100k, and then if over 100k, it gets another small discount again.
