Anyone else notice that things are all kinds of crazy these days?????????????????? The News, what''s happening around the world, the natural disasters, the economy, the lack of action towards natural disasters, the not so natural disasters...... the lack of human decency????

Haven''t personally noticed things being any worse than they usually are! Google some good news - there are stories out there that really restore your faith in humankind. It''s just we always get the bad, sensationalist stuff thrown at us.

Anytime I feel the world is going to the dogs I flip through the Old Testament and am reminded that things were always as gorey and messed up as they are today

Every generation thinks the world is going to heck in a handbasket

There is a famous quote saying exactly what you just said, and it is from 200AD or something

Humans are the same crazies we always were, and the world has always had natural disasters -- Pompeii anyone?

I recommend avoiding the TV news, newspapers, blogs, radio for a while. Ignorance really is bliss. And those mediums just distort people''s perceptions of reality.

I don't read the Bible, but recently have been reading many books on the middle ages and even a novel on the Black Plague. All this current stuff is just a drop in the bucket compared to being "convicted" of treason and being executed only a short time after surving the "sweating sickness," where people were buried in masses. (eh, I gotta find something less morbid to read.)

Oh, also my house is a natural disaster b/c of us being in middle of moving.

It's buisness as usual.

Disasters aren't so bad if they prompt policy changes to prevent such things from re-occuring (eg. Titanic--> enough lifeboats for everyone on all ships) The current oil disaster has prompted 5 year extended moratoriums in canada and the US on new sea wells, I imagine rig safety and maintinance regulations will become more stringent etc. Unfortunately, human beings learn best from mistakes.

If your news source is getting you down, perhaps switch to a less sensationalist news source (eg. Fox-> BBC world news)

We have clothes on our backs, a roof over our heads, and food on the table - it doesn't get much better than this!!!

All the more reason in life to celebrate the happy things and appreciate all the positivity there is amidst the drama of the world on every level.

Hope - I follow most of the major news groups on Twitter. I''ve just noticed more and more disasters, bad things, etc.

There does seem to be an awful lot of natural disasters lately. But what''s also caught my attention is how many people seem to misbehave on airplanes - and I don''t mean the bombing attempts, I just mean normal (?!) people who get drunk and act up. It seems like not a week goes by here in the US that someone doesn''t cause a problem on a plane!

I have a theory that since the beginning of time every generation has felt that things were better in the past.

I met a young woman recently who thinks mother nature is retaliating because we''re not treating her properly. I still don''t know what I think of that.

Does anyone know why its mother nature, and not father nature?

When you''re a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail.

We self-select for the things we "notice". The world in all its joy and pain has always been there, the only thing that is really changing is YOU and your focus within it. If we didn''t feel like every disaster in every corner of the world was our weird DUTY to follow, now that we can with instant 24 hour "news", we wouldn''t feel bad at all probably. It''s only realistic to say that not all disasters impact me. Why should I fill my head with them 24 hours a day? Is it helping? No. Will I be cranky? Yes.

And honestly folks, nothing gives perspective to events, both natural and human intitiated, like the reading of HISTORY. After you''ve read enough, you begin to see it all as cycles and variations on themes.

Riots, Rampages, Civil unrest, Hail, Flood, Volcano, Psychopaths, Rape, Kidnapping, War, Assassinations, Hypocrisy, Self-aggrandizement - they''re all there if you read enough.

Right now, I''ve lost 3 windshields and will likely have 2 cars totalled, had some siding trashed, and probably will need a new roof -and that''s IF I make it unscathed through the next round of tornadoes and hail that is firing up as I type. I''ve got bigger things to worry about than lack of human decency, which there has never been a lack of in truth.

Wish me luck with the wild night ahead guys.

It is nearly universal that life was created from the earth(some would word it came from the earth) since life comes from females it is mother earth and mother nature.
We cant get into religious discussions but that is where it comes from.

I dunno, the world seems pretty normal. It doesn't help that news organizations blow everything up and talk about incidents ad nauseam - in the past we just didn't hear about these things as much.

Every generations tends to think the world was so much safer/cleaner/better when they were young, but I think the same old problems follow us from one generation to the next.

eta: I also think when we get to a certain age (around early 20s) we start noticing this stuff way more. It's always been there, but as self-absorbed teenagers I don't think it affects us as much. Once we become adults and part of the work, it's easier to look around and say "Holy cow, there are a lot of horrible things going on!"

Ahh, thanks Karl.

I think it''s because The End Times are upon us, personally.

FINALLY. They''ve been harping on about it for long enough. On with the show already!

If you were to look at the front pages of, say, the New York Times, from 40 - 100 years ago, you would find that the world has always been in turmoil.

But - - and I think we can all agree - - there are either MORE a-holes in the world, or we just have a higher potential for noticing their behavior via internet, 24-hour news, cell phone video, etc. It''s much harder to hide a-holiness from a world that''s always connected.

And, common courtesy among ordinary people who interact daily has taken a serious nosedive. I could, and have, ranted on the deplorable state of our human kindness, but I find I''m just too tired of jerks anymore to discuss them. It''s a very exhausting topic.

No. Cats already died for that. Penance has been paid.

Greed.
Human kind has always been greedy. Like Ksinger and others have mentioned, a quick look back into history will prove how none of this is a new phenomena.

I think with more sources of media and better telecommunication, we are more aware of incidents not just in our immediate area (which is what we were limited to earlier), but all around the world. Plus, there is so much more hype surrounding issues these days.

I think it must be all that extra time they have to spend at the airports nowadays. "Okay, let''s get all liquored-up now. It''ll make all this boring all-day trip more interesting!"

Regarding each generation seeing the world as "safer" when you were younger: I think ignorance, and innocence, is bliss. Once you have things like children and a spouse and some assets to worry about, and you have a few bad experiences, and you become much more selective, the world just doesn''t seem so completely rosy and safe anymore.

Please remember to steer clear of religion and religious based topics.

I think it's because of Craigslist. It's all their fault. Damn them to h*ll. Opps, sorry for the religous comment. (or is that one?) My kids are confused by that word. They are told not to say it, but then it's said in Ratatouli (the kids' movie). ugh.

Anyway, Craigslist. When Dec. 2012 comes rolling around, it will be the people who rise up against those who do not show up for their appointments who will destroy the world.
