I'm drooling over the first one but am wondering what exactly is the difference between the two styles (apart from the fact that the first one has pave all around)? To me, the first one looks much more delicate, and yet more blingy/ glamorous. I wonder if it's because it has smaller melee and/ or it has more than one row of melee?

I am hoping some PS'ers with a keen eye for detail could tell me.

The reason I'm asking is because BGD is recutting a 1ct G VVS1 stone for me, and it's likely to become 0.90ct (Brian's estimate). This is a loooooong overdue project and I'm very excited indeed

, not just because it's going to look WAY better than it did previously, but also because I've been sans earrings in Shanghai for several months now (I'm not wearing my fabulous BGD earrings, due to my not being able to secure insurance); and I hate seeing my ears nikked!!

I may very well have to purchase another 0.90ct G VVS1/ VS stone to match this newly recut stone. BUT, I'm concerned they will be too small (due to my jumbo earlobes), hence the reason for wanting to have the extra width added, via the halo's.

My eyes agree with yours. Full pave versus not. Not sure the rationale to pave next to skin. I just saw another thread posting one of his eternity rings...it was FULL pave. Even on the inside of the finger! OMgosh! As for a piece of art pave where you don't see while wearing is a feat and cool, but seems silly while wearing it.
( I mean no disrespect to the master...LM...I am just too frugal to need it).

But if you are one of the lucky girls that get those VictoriaSecret diamond encrusted undy wear and are used to diamonds next to your skin, than it does make since. There are those that run among us.

I think I may see a hint of miligrain on the first one? I was searching for prongs...and they aren't there. So I assume both are bezel set?

OH WAIT...look at the angle of the ringed edge...the top one almost looks knife edged while the bottom one is only one row of diamonds...do you see that?

Lucky you... I had Leon make a pair similar to the pics you posted (pic below is the style I chose... 1.5 ct each). The only difference between the two pics you posted is melee all around. In person they are the same, just differences in the pics. I ended up chosing non-martini setting and pave only on the front. When the earring is in place you can''t see the back or really the side for that matter and the pave is kind of a waste in those places, not to mention a pretty penny more expensive. It''s technically more challenging to do the pave on the sides and he charges almost twice as much. The martini setting "digs" into the ear too much and the diamond has a tendency to drop down. He generally does all the earrings now with curved backs to sit more flush to the ear. I initially wanted the martini because they are so gorgeous in pics, but I was surprised at how much nicer the others wear. You will LOVE them!!! I get complements every day!!

Can you have him make removable halos? I''m asking because personally I''d love to a have additional halos for diamonds studs with different colored stones, yellow diamonds, pink diamonds, sapphires, there are so many possibilities!

yes leon will make jackets if that what the customer wants.

I know the blingier setting is probably raised enough off the ear so that the pave woudn''t rub, but I think I''d feel that was too much of a possibility to go with it. I''d hate to spend more on something I couldn''t see that would also be uncomfortable to wear. I generally love surprise diamonds and secret little touches, but not if they''re likely to be irritating!

I love those first ones too, but would avoid the pave in places people can''t see. I''m not sure how to articulate the difference, but the two earrings do look very different (both gorgeous, just different). I can''t wait to see what you get Phoenix!!!

Thank you for replying. Have you actually seen the two different styles in person? They look quite different in the pics.

Your earrings look absolutely gorgeous!!

Would you mind if I asked you how much you paid for the setting? I emailed Leon a couple of times but haven''t heard from him yet. I''ll call him, but would appreciate your giving me the heads up. If you don''t feel comfortable sharing, that''s ok.

I do love the curved backs. I think that''s a really neat idea, since martini''s do eat into your earlobes, esp, if they''re pushed back too tight.

I think my eyes see what yours see also insofar as the two styles being different, including the knife-edge/ slightly tilted side vs. straight. I also don't think it's worth the money to put pave on the sides and on the backs.

I see something that looks like milgrain too. Hmmm....I wonder? I don't think they're bezelled though.

They do look very different, at least in the pics.

I do *know* that I need something bezelled or halo''ed to maximise the ear coverage on my jumbo lobes, LOL!! And I also do know that halo''es, esp. Leon''s, would be quite a bit more than just plain metal bezels. But these halo''s are TDF though, aren''t they?!! I just hope I wouldn''t have to shell out too many $$$, otherwise it''d totally defeat the whole purpose of me wearing something a bit more affordable (compared to my fab BGD martini studs, which I absolutely wouldn''t be able to replace if God forbid I were to lose them).

As far as dangles vs studs though, I''m still quite undecided. I''ve recently had a bunch of hair chopped off, so wonder if the dangles may not be suitable any more for me? But dangles seem more easy to wear, not to mention the jump-rings making the diamonds sway and sparkle more!!

I can''t remember exactly the cost. I had three other projects done at the same time and I just can''t remember the details of each. I''m guessing in the 2500 to 3500 range.

Good Lord!! $2.5-3.5k just for the earring settings?!!

They ARE very beautiful but am not sure I'm prepared to spend that kind of money at the moment. You're so lucky!! Wear your earrings in good health.

Ohhhh!! What are the other "projects" you had done by Leon at the same time? Enquiring mind wants to know, he he!!

Ok, I think I'll have to consider some other alternative for my earrings [sigh]. Thanks for letting me know anyhow.
