I am currently working with several vendors right now and I noticed that no one seems to have these reports which are important for every evaluation I''ve heard of. If the seller doesn''t have or can''t provide what is my best course of action to get these? Can they be provided independently after I make a purchase? If so does that mean I have to have these done before the stone is set?

I prefer to work with vendors that DO offer these images, have you asked any of the ones you are working with if they can supply them?

Vendors which offer Idealscope, ASET, photos and other technologies

I''m down to two vendors for the most part and one is a large chain that ironically had a diamond for a reasonable price but all they have is the GIA which on an asscher is only the first step. The other is going to request a sarin report and images once he recieves the stones but i''m not sure that he will be able to provide the ASET and idealscope image. Is that something that he should be able to provide?

HI Vinnyv11,
If you want ASET images, by all means, work with a vendor who will provide them.
However, such images are by no means common with sellers overall.
The lack of such images is not seen as important by many professional dealers as most don't use ASET/IS

Again- if you want them, get them...but I would suggest against drawing conclusions based on lack of ASET/IS.

I'm in the minority here on PS, but not necessarily in the diamond business as a whole.
My own personal feeling is that if the seller is trustworthy, and the stone appeals to your eyes, the info provided by an ASET/IS is superfluous.
Clearly many others here feel differently- but it's a big diamond world out there!

I am mostly asking at this point because the one vendor that seems to have several great diamonds for me is about 2.5 hours away so I want to have the most information as possible prior to making the trip there. Also to post pic''s and info on the site to get the most opinion back from everyone else. I''m finding that a majority of vendors don''t have crown height available which in terms of cut is fairly important also i''m having trouble as a novice really determining brilliance and thats why I thought an ASET or Idealscope image would be helpful.

if you are shopping in person for an asscher you don't need them but a sarin is nice for the crown height.
if your shopping online imho the min. is a bunch of good pictures in different lighting(5+) and crown height.
They do not have to be aset or IS if there is enough of them and they are quality pictures properly taken with the right backgrounds.
pictures with the diamond in the air are useless with asschers.

A picture from square on the side can be used to estimate crown height if a sarin is not available.
Ask for a bunch of pics including a side shot and one with the diamond in the V of someones fingers.

HI Vinny,
Many here disagree with my opinions, however it''s still important to express them to give readers a more balanced view.

Although you will find many here who feel info such as crown height are valuable in figuring out things about a diamond, my own personal opinion is that such info is nowhere near as valuable to a shopper as high quality digital photos.
If the seller can perform a Sarin, why would they be unable to take photos?

In terms of posting stats and info here to get opinions: also something many find valuable- but others may find that the opinions of other people posting may not match what their eyes tell them.
Say you love the diamond, but it''s got a bad ASET ( this is not uncommon)- then you may have people who have not seen the diamond criticize it needlessly.

That''s why I say to trust your eyes.
Make sure you look at the stone in various lighting situations, and more important - get that money back guarantee- so you can look at the diamond away from the store entirely.

Yes, you can get this information separately. Many independent appraisers are prepared to do this for you on an ala carte basis. There’s a list of appraisers at the top right corner of the page under ‘resources’ and if there’s one you would like to include in your shopping process, first talk to the appraiser (to see if they offer the services you want) and then talk to the jeweler about the logistics of how to do it.

Thanks for all the replies. I''m still waiting to get more info from the jeweler (hopefully tommorrow). This whole process has been crazy and based on my research there is a lot of stones out there with terrible cuts so i''m just trying to make the most educated decision. Finding a higher end stone has been difficult as several jewelers have only been able to show me one or two stones and most online vendors haven''t had very much at all to show. Hoping the diamonds that the jeweler is showing me this weekend are the ones. Again will post when I get images and stats if available. Any additional online vendors I should check out that deal with Asschers would also be helpful as a majority of the sites I have visted really aren''t offering much.

Good old gold has found the most great asschers for people here, if the ones your looking at don''t work out contact them and have them hunt some down.
Finding great asschers is a hunt.

Ya I sent an email to goodoldgold yesterday to get some additional options as pretty much no online resource has had much to offer me based on what i''m searching for.
