What does it mean, and what is a good/excellent range?

Thanks a lot!

This info might be useful, check it out!

Thanks Lorelei! It''s a lot to figure out, but I''ll do my best.

So star/upper ration of 49:51 is good then? I''m still not sure, sorry.

Thanks!

As many here will tell you every proportion is somewhat dependent on every other proportion to create a great diamond. Thus there is a range of proportions that might work for the Star/upper ratio. (AGS would now tell you that proportion based grading is passé and that performance based grading is the way to do it.)

GIA will give an excellent grade to diamonds with Star Facets from 45 - 65 percent but most of the diamonds that we see here on Pricescope tend to be in the 50 - 60% range. (This of course is assuming that ALL of the other factors required to meet the EX grade are also in place.

So yes, the stone you are asking about with the 49:51 ratio could indeed be outstanding, or it could be not so good, but it will not be this ratio alone that determines it.

Thanks Wink!

I just attached ASET and IS for this stone in my other thread. It''s GIA triple EX, and scores 1.3 on HCA.

I just want to check out everything to make sure I''m buying the right stone.

Thank you very much for your comments!

Sorry, should have come back and followed up, but Sir Wink has done an excellent job as usual and far better than I could have!

Sounds like a beauty, I am sure your eyes will enjoy it.

Lorelei, thank you for the kind words. I am going to go into a corner and blush now where no one can see Sir Wink looking flushed...

By the way, I love your avatars! Is it you in it, Wink?

Yes, I was actually trying to go just to the left of that rock, but it moved into my path and I had to go over it instead.

Yes, it did move! I swear!

Wink

Well, maybe I just missed a stroke, but really, I AM pretty sure it moved just to spite me....

WOW! I always wanted to try something like that! Whoever took the pic did a great job!

(I guess I really should try to get in the group climbing Kilimanjaro this fall!) lol

One of the first memories I have of Wink was a picture of him Kayaking down the street in front of his office! I didn''t know Wink at the time, but at that point I had to pick up the phone and get acquainted. I don''t know where the picture of Wink shooting down the street in a tiny stream of water went, but here is more on THE ROCK for those who want to know more about Wink''s steering wheel problems

While searching for that thread I also found this photo halfway down … Wink''s son doing some million foot waterfall in Oregon! The apple may not have fallen far from the tree but he fell a long way here!

Now with all of this in mind... Last year Valerie and I dropped in to see Wink and his lovely Wife Resa in Idaho and it happened to be raining Cats & Dogs outside and the temperature was sub-zero-something... It''s first thing in the morning and Wink is all set up to "teach us how to kayak"?!?! Uh no, that seems like more of a summer time activity for us beginners

This is so fun! You have quite a community here! So you guys just go around visiting eachother?

The craziest thing I did is sky diving several times. Then of course I and my husband got certified as scuba divers... But this fall there''s a small expedition going to climb Kilimanjaro, and I might be able to get on it. If I go I''ll definitely post pictures here and share my experience.

Great web-site! It''s nice to get to know people who help you here, and others who are just lurking. :)

Thanks!

Not exactly, but sometimes it happens. We may be competitors, but we are also friends.

P.S. I think this might be one of the pictures Todd is talking about. A water main broke and turned my office building into an island. The girl with one pant leg up and the other down was a channel 2 reporter who ruined her shoes and probably her pants to get the story. I happened to have my boat in the truck as I had intended to go kayaking that evening. Never made it, but I did get a first descent down Main Street in Boise. Film was at 10, not eleven.
