I totally stole Haven's idea for this thread! Any good news stories to share, small or large? Here's mine, from today:

It was a reeeaaaally sunny day here today and I spent most of it at a lake near my house. Two young guys spent the entire day in there with wetsuits and a mask and snorkel, clearing out any tiny bits of rubbish they found in the lake (it was pretty clean, but there were a few of cans and even a bicycle at the bottom!). They did this because they had noticed fish spawning on the far side of the lake, and they didn't want anything to harm them! How sweet is that??

What great pick-me-ups! Thanks, Choro!

Uh oh. These sites may not be for me. I just posted a note to AJ (arjunajane) in a Jewelry Pieces thread about my not having good boundaries. I am in tears over the mean boys in one of the stories despite its having

an uplifting hero. I think I had better go read about what people are finding on Etsy!

Depending on where you are in IRE, even a really sunny day is something right with the world.

For me there is the story of a girl who went to school with my brother. She is a bit younger than me. She was born in the untouchable caste in India and given how beautiful she is, she was bound to be a prostitute. At the time, gay couples could really not adopt in this country, so her moms went to India and found her. Instead of being a starving prostitute constantly in danger, she just graduated and is going into neuroscience. She still keeps up with issues around the untouchables in India and told me about this amazing project: http://www.adb.org/Water/Actions/IND/Toilet-Technology.asp. A man from the Brahmins, the highest caste, wanted to do something to help India, so he created a special toilet that would not only improve disease issues, but would also eliminate much of the need for untouchables who are the main way sanitation is currently handled. He also hires them and helps get the toliets, which are enviromentally friendly, put in around the country.

True that! It's been an incredible weekend down south, and I think in most of the country although I heard reports earlier of Sligo being cloudy, so maybe the north westerners weren't so lucky.

What a great story, that project is amazing.

Great stories, Porridge and BIH! I really loved this story I read today on Time.com about a man who started the Innocence Project, a project dedicated to reexamining evidence in criminal cases and freeing those who were wrongfully convicted. Although it''s terrible that the people were wrongfully convicted to begin with, their positive attitudes really impressed me. I was also impressed with the tireless work of the Innocence Project employees. This was the latest story and on the side bar is a link to stories about 10 of the people who were exonerated.

I''m SOBBING over here!

My mom told me a great story today. She spent the morning at the birthday party of a woman who was a righteous gentile during WWII. As a 14 year old girl, she would go to the trains that were carting Jews off to concentration camps and people would literally throw their children into her arms. She found families to take in tens of babies and children who would have otherwise perished in the camps.

She ultimately came to the U.S. was taken in by a very wealthy Jewish family, who has spent years tracking down and traveling to Europe with her to reunite her with many of the now-grown children she saved during the war.

Personal story here. It''s great that people can forgive you for past transgressions. I recently became friends with a girl on FB that I wasn''t very nice to in HS and she is a really nice person. She''d give you the shirt off her back if she could and I wish I would have realized that so long ago.

This is very inspiring thread!

I woke up today to blazingly hot heat (I live in the Caribbean). I was griping about the weather on my way to church, when I suddenly reminded myself that I should be thinking more positively. I thought to myself..."You know, if it was raining all day, I would be complaining about it...so I''m going to be thankful for this day". That''s when I looked up and noticed the beautiful, puffy, white clouds against the bright blue sky, and the coconut trees wafting in the light breeze. It was a beautiful day!

Yesterday I went to Disney. I was standing in line with my mom for a ride. In front of us there was first a family with a 2 year old little boy. They were African American... and he was the cutest little boy. Behind them was another family with the blondest little girl. The little girl started crying... no apparent reason... she was just tired. Her dad was holding her... and the other dad was holding the little boy right in front. The little boy reached out... leaned over his dad''s back... and hugged the little girl. He wanted SO BADLY for her to feel better.

Aw DF that is heartbreakingly cute!!

I''ve had multiple people hold the door open for me when I''m out (i.e. shopping, etc). I always hold the door for other people, but I don''t get many who hold the door for me. It''s such a small thing, but it''s what came to my mind!

I'm constantly inspired by a guy from my college - he was on a trip to Honduras and was really bothered by the conditions at an orphanage he visited, so he decided to do something. He started a group called Students Helping Honduras that now has chapters in colleges all around the mid Atlantic and has helped build a better orphanage, schools, and even a good chunk of a town. He doesn't tire and he doesn't stop - he's passionate about helping people and helping them help themselves, and is determined to do whatever he can to help this one small section of the world.

We have a local get together at the botanical gardens.... it is a moonlit walk. There''s an astrology club that sets up their telescopes and each one has something different... Venus... Saturn... close shots of the moon. I don''t know that they get paid... but they sit out there all night... letting people look... and sharing interesting facts. I had no idea there was a space craft studying Saturn''s moons... and that it found water shooting up from one. They are all so nice and they don''t have to be out there sharing that info and setting up those telescopes for people to see. I just thought it was so generous. I said thank you to every single gentleman there.

My mum''s friend''s son was at the coast yesterday. He saw two women walking along a rocky area where people don''t generally walk because it''s too slippy. Suddenly one of the woman fell in, and the other started screaming that she couldn''t swim. Mum''s friend''s son is a lifeguard and is very familiar with that area. He jumped in after her and pulled her in, and some passers-by helped them out of the water. He got some bruises and scrapes, but he was ok. The woman was hysterical but her friend calmed her down.

Mum''s friend''s son left as soon as he got his clothes on, because he didn''t want any attention! He wouldn''t even tell her his name, because he didn''t want people talking about him or didn''t want her to feel like she had to do something to thank him. What a hero.
